Does one just automatically join a dating service after divorce ? Any recent;in the pool folks meet anyone IRL like the old days ? My sample date is small, a friend who divorced about 3 years ago and he met a much younger woman through work and he's still with her. His ex-wife is on multiple services OTOH. Do ex's see each other on these sites ?

My buddy who got divorced in January got a lifetime membership to some of these sites. He’s been juggling two or three women at a time for the past six months. It will no doubt blow up in his face eventually, but he seems to be having a great time right now. But I did ask him what he’s going to do if he matches with his ex-wife, and he said that you can exclude certain names from being able to see you.

Dating apps are like eating someone elses 2 day old leftovers from the workfridge
For women its like online shopping
For men its like applying for a job

the day my coworker, my ex wife, and a girl I was sorta dating all popped up on Match at once was the day I deleted my account

I did see a couple old girlfriends from back in the day, and it has been cool to tie in with one of them and be friends again

my girlfriend was my girlfriend 30 years ago - we’ve got a long distance thing going and it’s ok - forces us to take our time and allows us to really appreciate each other and our time together - she’s still in the middle of a divorce and we both have kids in high school so we are not ready to go all in yet
I didn't believe in reincarnation when I was your age either.

but the plan is for me to move to her town next year - the same town my ex wife and her husband are moving to - move 300 miles away and end up 5 miles from each other? yikes! I’m in the same town as her now and I don’t even live that close to her

JFC, if someone sent me a message that looked like this, I'd politely decline too.

It looks like the cat sat on the keyboard.

    oh and

she had quite a run on Match from what I know - that’s where she met this guy and married him in like two months

the thing I finally realized, and it’s been made more and more apparent as I approach 5 years out the door, is that my ex is emotionally retarded - she always was - her family is fucked up and she is damaged

My assumption is about half the divorced guys were the weak link/grease fires in their marriages.

This seems to be pretty consistent. Not to draw too many conclusions about people’s characters or ability to be a good stable partner, but in my anecdotal experience one of the partners finds a new stable relationship fairly quickly that clicks and is sustainable, and the other is a series of train wrecks. This is certainly true of my ex and I.

Tenuous conclusion and gross oversimplification: some of these flawed relationships were really only viable due to the stability of the one compromising partner, and when they run out of patience the whole thing implodes. They move on pretty easily, and the other flames out continuously until they find somebody equally or more stable and compromising. Which they’re less likely to do as the dating pool shrinks and is filled with people who have been there and done that.

My new partner was definitely on the compromising end of her relationship. Remains to be seen which of us is further toward the instability spectrum, but I think we’re both quite a ways away from it and it’ll take something else to mess it up that isn’t just the background noise of ongoing dysfunction.
    focus.

I think Fred is about as truthful as Ernest Hemingway. Which means loosely based on facts, filtered through a haze of liquor and bong water
