And I think you're wrong about the optionality of the drag queen story hour. Public funds have been spent on them: https://nypost.com/2022/06/11/over-2...t-nyc-schools/ ..

I don't mind the issue and don't have a problem if my kids are exposed to it. I just think that if others don't want their kids exposed to it, they should have that right.
Are the kids forced to attend the story hour?

Good for you and your daughter, the stereotypes about homeschooled kids exist for a reason though. And of course there are exceptions just like everything.

Read the article and scan around. Evidently these shows have taken place in public school during regular hours without parents knowing.

I'd love to bring the people that object to the shows around, but force feeding probably won't change their minds.

Who the fuck cares. Investing Public funds and education in anti bias programs like that is money well spent.

Again, and puhleeez understand what I've been pooting:
    I don't care.

But there are people who do.

It's just that I think they should have the choice if in fact the stuff I'm reading is true regarding this stuff during school hours.

Now back to the personal attaques, s'il vous plait.

They have a choice. Parents have their kids abstain from events and classes at public schools all the time. Nobody is being forced to participate. The kids don’t care it’s a parent problem. If a parent doesn’t like that their kid was “exposed” to this depravity then they can ask that their kids sit it out in the future. This is a non problem looking for a solution.

Can someone query what other groups get paid and how much to do lectures and whatever at public schools in nyc? i can remember a guy that came in to talk about the importance of black flies, some homeless people that explained how much it sucked to be homeless, not much unfortunately.

I mean even in the context of horrific abuse in this thread I just don't get why it is such a crime (or that one would cast aspersions on a group) that people want to turn down the hate by exposing kids to the idea that it's ok not to be like everyone else.

Why not spend the money helping actual protected classes and not just gender LARPers? If we’re being honest, maybe just some of that is because drag queens are more likely to trigger homophobic right wingers than your standard non-flamboyant LGBTQ individuals?

There's a number of documented instances where parents did not have a choice. Denying that is unreasonable.

    For example, as cited earlier:
    ...
STAR Academy parents were told of the in-school drag session ahead of time, Neverson said — but could not opt their kids out of it.

“It was mostly just like a heads up, you know, like, ’Hey, this event is coming up. We’re gonna have these people come in.’ And that was that,” she said.

But at other schools, parents had no idea.

“I didn’t get any notice,” complained Reese Harrington, a parent at PS 191. “My daughter actually came home and told me that a drag queen came to the school … I feel like it would have been better for that conversation to happen at home.”

Some stuff I don't understand is a big deal to other people.

But just because it's not a big deal to me doesn't mean I can't understand or respect that it's a big deal to them.

Nypost? And a parent saying that they couldn’t opt out isn’t “documented”. Parents often ignore communication from their children’s school and feign ignorance later. Come on Buster, we know you’re better than this.

Let me get this straight. You read in that bastion of modern journalism and truthful reporting, The New York Post, a click bait article about some parents who are guilty of being ignorant of what is going on at their kids school. Like most parents are 50% of the time IME. You home schooled. Are you really educated about what is involved in sending a kid off to school and getting info back.

Nothing wrong with homeschooling. My grand daughter was homeschooled with her brother. They are smarter that your kids. She's going to go to a real HS this year. 5'9" 170lbs, Gonna play tight end on the JV football team. I was 114 at 5'5" and got cut my first year. Not fair.

That's not the only instance I've read or heard.

I don't think a response is any longer warranted.

The primary reason anyone has heard of this is because it's a useful foil for people who want to push culture war issues. How many events did they do? Who can say this money isn't well spent if incidents of hate crimes against LGBTQ+Whatever go down in ten years or it prevents a Pulse sooner than that? I am not saying that there shouldn't be a heads up or some kind of parental choice with this or evolution or anything but to me that should be the outlier and not the default. I don't think their intentions are sinister so it should be up to school systems and parents deciding this kind of stuff and not a heavy handed Texas banning approach or blanket statements like Buster's "This is wrong".

ETA: again it is 200k of 37B and some of that money came from cultural funds etc and not all out of the DOE in nyc.

Can kids opt out of the active shooter drills and stay home that day instead? I'd argue that is more trauma inducing theater than a man in a dress reading a book.

    More Teacher/Student Sex

I’m not sure it’s in the public interest to always give every parent complete choice over what their kids are exposed to day to day. I think their precious should see things like drag queens and moslems and homos and shit and realize that different isn’t scary. Otherwise we’re just stuck at passing the bigotry down generation to generation.

The world would be a better place.
