I would give these guys a little distance. Their main defense is regurgitation. And their diet is rotting meat. I have been told that one way to help mask the smell if regurgitated on, is to use skunk spray because it will smell much better.

1 guess why? I was fishing out of Flamingo, Florida 10 years ago, and if you left your truck in the sun or shade, (I forget which), they would chew out all the rubbery bits around your windows and doors, like a dog with a chew toy.

We had a pair up at our cabin on Lake Wenatchee last year. They would work in tandem to get ducklings. One would swoop in to get the ducks in the air and then circle to keep them from landing and the other would dive and pluck the ducklings out of the water one by one.

Whoo-who can you tell me what kind of owl this is?

He flew into my front window this evening. I picked him up and held him in my lap until he came to and eventually flew off.

At first I thought he was a baby great horned or maybe a western screech but he had no tuffs. Maybe they were just down because he was semi-conscious?

That’s awesome, how much acid is that thing on? Those pupils can see through someone’s soul.

The unequal pupils are a little worrisome, but then I'm not a vet and he did fly away . . .

I’d say western screech given the colour and banding, but it does seem a bit large. Colouring and beak don’t look like a great horned, and a bit small even for a juvenile just leaving the nest. So cool to experience though (despite the trauma from hitting your window)!

See shark discussion re flying/swimming away.

Actually, I think/hope it's just a perspective difference, since the big pupil'd eye socket is also larger.
If it's not perspective, poor guy is truly buggered.

In one of the pics one eye is closed. Maybe he smacked that eye when he flew into the window.
It's heartbreaking when an animal is killed unintentionally by the works of man--collateral damage--like flying into windows (I'm guilty), hit by cars, etc. They haven't evolved to survive our contraptions.

The Chinese are training and releasing attack sharks, orcas, and otters to disrupt western civilization. It's all there on Hunter Biden's laptop.

Saw six or eight bears (pretty sure griz) today near the summit of Mt. Siyeh in Glacier NP. Some yearlings and cubs were frolicking on a snowfield while two bigger bears were keyed in on a food source, cutworm army moth larvae we think that they get from flipping over rocks. Normally I would turn around in this situation, but they seemed so unconcerned with us that we just kept going between them to the summit. Then had to work around them again on the way down. Felt like they were everywhere. Here's some video I took of the bears playing. This is at 10,000 feet near the summit. Very cool sighting being able to watch them for so long. Put on the sound for a bit of an explanation.

    Wildlife

The annual turkey crew that does laps around the area is smaller this year with three little guys (formerly five).

There has been a couple does hanging around the house and in the dense scrub oak and tall grasses for a few weeks. One came up to the cats on the porch while I was right there. Then one day, I noticed a fawn boinging around like on a pogo stick. Turns out there are three fawns. One day they were boinging around chasing each other around a scrub oak island! It was cute and funny as hell. One doe came right after our dog when she stepped outside protecting the young 'uns. This crappy shot is the best I've been able to get so far. They are quick!
