Orioles love that shit. Cut an orange in half and put it out for them in a holder.
That’s exactly what my mom said too. Except slightly less colorfully than you did [emoji38]

How long before the Orca social network reaches the West Coast?

Yeah, I think orcas are smarter than humans. They have been around for a lot longer than us, have relatively bigger and more wrinkly brains, they have dialects of language, pass along knowledge generationally, and lots of other stuff.
The orca pods around New Zealand used to go out with the fishing boats and help the boats fish, so they could also get more fish, then one day one of the boats killed an orca and they immediately left and don't help the fishing boats anymore. So I think it's not surprising that if boats have been fucking with them they will start fighting back.
Turkey vultures...my mom's favorite animal. Can't help but think of her when I see them congregate.
These birds are like fungi in a lot of ways. Often overlooked and under celebrated, but they are purpose built for a mission-critical role in the ecosystem.

"All God does is watch us and kill us when we get boring. We must never, ever be boring."
About time the whales started to fight back. (OK, technicallyt they are big dolphins.) I was watching a show about the endangered right whales. The main causes of death are boat strikes and getting tangled in fishing gear--both slow, painful deaths.
That's awful

Trigger warning--this is not a picture of a cool animal. The fact below may be disturbing to some readers (I hope).

Human beings comprise 36% of the population of land vertebrates. Livestock comprise 59%. Wild animals comprise 5%. I knew it was bad. I didn't realize how bad.
The article is about an NGO that trys to bring down groups that illegally traffic in wildlife.
I volunteer to be wild.

“Green sea turtles are the only sea turtles recorded basking and Hawaiʻi is the only place in the world where green sea turtles bask on shore regularly – almost every day! …Basking is a way to raise their body temperature (thermoregulation), rest, escape potential predators, and improve digestive and immune system functions.”
Was driving up to the bay to check the water levels and happened across this healthy specimen

What's the most painful?
And are Tarantula Hawks known to sting humans/pets?
Wait, I can just google this.
Tarantula Hawks are fucking terrifying.
Tarantula Hawks are probably one of the most docile stinging insects out there. You’d have to really piss them off in a bad way to provoke a sting.

They're still fucking terrifying.
Having such power to inflict pain and being cool about it is the most terrifying thing ever.
