Welp, I guess my info is old. I've spent exactly one night in Colorado since 2020.

Bummer about Polanka. It was a good spot.

Seriously though, Google Maps says the route I suggested is about 45 mins slower than going Green River>70 and the similar as 80>25. Fuck driving through the desert in the summer and fuck driving all the way down 25 to Highlands Ranch. See some 'Murica, stay cool in the mountains, drive a bit slower and so on.

    OFFICIAL I70 BITCH THREAD....

Great job by CDOT and their crack fillers near the tunnel. Don’t bother actually making the new asphalt flush with the existing asphalt around the fix. Really helps the road stay massively bumpy [emoji106]

Must be dependent on when google is being asked. Because yesterday I was surprised at the suggestions to avoid the 80-25 (from a speed perspective, not from a "that route sucks" perspective), but when I put in Sandy>HR, the US 40 route was actually right there in terms of time. And you are right, it would be the most pleasant by far.

And you could stop at El Sombrero in Vernal for some tasty tacos.

The reasons to take 80 include fireworks, Little America, Curt Gowdy State Park, a tour of most of the Front Range Megaopolis. The reasons to go a different way are much greater...but different strokes for different folks.

For me, the biggest reason to take 80-25 is the "shut your brain off while driving" notion. You actually have to pay attention when driving 40, and kinda pay attention when driving 70.

When this happens I’ll be enjoying the views of a lesser traveled route. Timing is about the same really and having spent time on both 70 and 80 many times, it’s very boring. I’ve driven all over this country on interstates. Now that I’m older I’d like to see it differently again.

    And tacos in Vernal.

25 from the Wyoming border is worth avoiding, especially if you’re going to HR. Although it might make the slide into suburban hell a little more gradual.

Well then your certainly be going the wrong way. Laramie>287>25. But hey, you could go through Encampment and over Willow Creek which would also be the wrong way, but awesome.

You could party at the Beartrap in Riverside or go to the hotsprings

Fort Fun pretty much makes this a mistake these days... unless you're stopping for tacos.

And I-25 from the Wyoming border is generally just fine right up until... Fort Collins, where 287 comes in.

    Less traveled...go Dinosaur -> Meeker -> 8 over Flat Tops -> 134 over Gore Pass -> 40 -> 34 -> Trail Ridge -> 36 out.
If you want to scrape some rocks, we can get even less traveled

I vote 80 to Baggs to Oak Creek to Wolcott.

I 2nd the amazeballness of the taco truck in Green River, which you will not pass unfortunately. Blows any others mentioned away.

As for Polanka, I was a long time customer from their days in GWS. I miss that establishment and their family. Like posted above, they have been closed for years.

If you're ever on I-80 near Laramie, I'm told this place isn't to be missed.

If you are on 80, there is great Indian at the janky truck stop at the salt flats exit. Indian sweets and such in the store too.

So there are *two* good Indian joints at janky truck stops on I-80?

    That's quite amazing, TBH.

where is the "salt flats exit", when I google that it shows the exit at I-80 in western Utah, which you obviously wouldn't pass driving 80 from SLC to Denver.

true, but when you change the parameters to Sandy and Highlands Ranch, the route suggestion changes.
