Switzerland is the size of Vermont and New Hampshire combined and it's world leading GDP per capita trades on its neutrality and a shady banking industry that got a huge foundational start powered by stolen Jewish $ and Nazi commerce.

Switzerland you are probably paying about $1000/year in vehicle taxes, gas is $7.75/gal, and many roads are toll roads.

This is still my favorite TGR thread.

If you think it's bad now, prepare yourself for the next 10 years of BIL construction projects.

that would be burdensome if it weren’t for the excellent public transportation that you can use in the place of your own gas guzzling vehicle. Public transportation that takes you exactly where you need to go when you need to be there without the need for any sort of extra personal vehicles at all.

I’ll happily pay more in taxes for that shit.

    fact.

And that is achievable in top level GPD/small area country that also has very high taxes. Pop density of Switzerland is 10x that of CO with the density being far more evenly distributed across the land than CO, so nationwide public transit makes sense in Switzerland (which is only the size of Colorado's 4 largest counties). Switzerland has over 2x the GDP of CO.

I practically feel trapped from heading west from Crested Butte right now. Still no Kebler Pass, that looks like it will be a while. And 133 is still closed with the huge sinkhole near Paonia. We're in summer #3 of 50 being a suckfest, and it sure doesn't look like they're really accomplished much there.

Making the trek back down to the San Juan's pretty soon and am debating between taking 285 vs the western route via I-70. Anyone driven 285 recently and can comment on road quality? My femur repair is healing well but I wonder if the shit I70 roads are going to be a nightmare on my leg. Small bumps ain't to bad, but bigger potholes are painful on short drives, let alone a 7 hour journey.

Last time I drove it - which was like November - it was pretty smooth.
Have driven 160 as far east as Del Norte more recently and don't recall any nasty conditions on that stretch.

The cement surface stretch of 285 in the foothills will probably suck if you're feeling the bumps. That said, I-70 has so many sections that are super rough right now. When I took Brittany home after her neck+femur I had to give her fair warning on many occasions and she would brace her neck for the bumps...

    Congrats on getting home soon.

I forgot about that stretch. Yeah, that section is moto-whooped to all fuck. I still want to give the engineer that spec'd concrete a good firm kick in the nuts.

I haven't been further south than Poncha in a while but 285 was pretty good to there.

There is nothing I love more than stop and go traffic on I70 in the summer. Eases out the bumps for sure.

Thanks for the beta everyone. I think we'll try 285 unless something else forces us the other way

What’s the best route currently from SLC to Denver-ish?

Depends on whether you want to roll the dice on 70 or 25. Both can be awful.

I'd go 80 now that you don't (shouldn't) have to deal with wind/snow closures on 80. You're not on 25 that long compared to how long you're on 70 for the potential to get fuct

Depends on where in Denver, where in SLC and how you define best, are you fucking with any rush road, do you need a cone at Great American, do you want to go to the Mexican place in Wellington, how far over the limit do you like to drive, and so on...it could be 70, 80, 40, 13 and a fair amount of combinations.

Highlands Ranch. East coast buddy of mine has finally moved after being stuck there for 30 years.

I’ve gone 80 and 70 before but wondered about 40>64>13 but then I’m dumped into Rifle and the dreaded I70.

It’s be a weekday for the to/from but be there over a weekend. Also looking at cool spots to truck camp on the to/from as I have the time currently. No need to drive all day.

Any helpful tips are always appreciated. Been too long since I’ve visited your great state.

Coming from Sandy, not in a rush but I also don’t drive the limit, 10-15 over tends to happen in the Tundra.
Good food recs and stops are certainly a bonus.
