stay north (hwy 40) jerk around then enter the shit box called the front range over cameron pass
or rock mtn park if you can get an entry the goto the worlds largest planned suburban community and realize what hell really is

just suck it up and hit 70 on a saturaday morning or firday evening and head back that way

but yeah stay north then drop in on the way there

Take 70 and hit Jilbertitos in West Glenwood. Highlands Ranch from the north (I-25) requires you to run the FULL motherfuckin' gauntlet. Unless you spend the $35 to take E-470 around the city.

70 on a weekday will be more fine than 25 on a weekday. Unless it snows, then yer fucked.

Jilbertitos is a great recommendation. Basically my favorite part of driving way west on i70 is stopping there.

American Fork>40>70>c470 is the way based on your parameters...bump the thread or message me a couple hours before you are looking for a camp.

SLC to Denver and Jilbertitos is the only worthy restaurant? That seems weird and wrong. I stopped in the Wellington Jilbertitos once and asked if they had any spicy meat or al pastor and they said no. What I did get was OK - I think they had shredded lettuce?? on them IIRC. Authentic but bland IMO.

Taco truck in Green river is much better.

Agreed. The GWS Jillbertos is my go to if I'm on a quick trip to the desert. A handful of burritos goes a long way.

But other than that, pretty average. But on CO and UT road trips, it's MX, BBQ or the grocery store for me.

Gotcha. And I'm willing to try the place again as choices are slim out there.

For sit down food the Tamarisk is decent in GR, but everyone wants to go Rays there if there is no rush. Theres some decent choices in Helper too but nothing I feel strongly about. Just much better than the fast food in Price.

May as well hit both for a head-to-head.

I pretty much just get the machaca burrito any more when I stop at Jilbertitos. Goddam is that tasty.

Anyone been to the taco trucks that are set up just east of J's in W. Glenwood? I've been meaning to stop, but then end up at Jilbertitos with a machaca burrito in my face.

ETA: the tacos are middling at Jilbertitos, IMO - I don't bother getting them.

If i want good food on vacation, I'll go to France. If I go east of Wolcott, I better to going to the airport.

There is no chillin' not at a campfire. It's all adventure all the time. Mostly full throttle 'till death, with a bit of Yoga with Adrienne and a couple Silver Bullets.

Polanka in Rifle is IMO the best "readily accessible from I-70" restaurant west of the continental divide in CO. You can eat there or get takeout and eat a nice, quiet park around the corner.

Polish food is also much less of a dice roll than Mexican food for a long drive. Eating Mexican food in Glenwood can set up the perfect storm for getting stuck in traffic further east as you near the front range.

I shall endeavor to try this place - you aren't the only one that has sung its praises...

It’s be a weekday for the to/from but be there over a weekend. Also looking at cool spots to truck camp on the to/from as I have the time currently. No need to drive all day.

Any helpful tips are always appreciated. Been too long since I’ve visited your great state.
Wait a minute, that sounds eerily familiar.

Yardley, PA way back when. He’s been in Roanoke for many years as of late. 2 adult kids in CO, one in Bozeman and he’s a lifelong ski buddy. Finally saw the light! Looking forward to seeing him again.
