Today is Stein Eriksen's birthday. He was Heavenly's first Ski School Director for a couple years in the mid-50's, back in the early days when it was growing from a rope tow on Ski Run Blvd into an actual ski resort.

His nickname on the hill was big bird, which at 6’7 was pretty fitting!

He's not landing switch and riding it to the road.

Some nice old school styling in this compilation: Schmidt, Anderson, Egans, Coombs, Jungst.

Thanks for the memories, -mofo -

    Killy was a pioneer
( I wonder how long he skied ; it is my understanding it was decades ago )

Stein was a pioneer, too --

    Thanks, Again. !

Ah, thank you for posting that. I recalled having seen a video a while back of Killy talking about not having skied for a long time, but I couldn't find it, or even remember if it was in a documentary, or whatever. In any case your mention of the article led me to a CNN interview where Killy talks about it at 1:55 into the vid.

It's seems very sad to me he completely gave up skiing, but I get where he's coming from, and it was of course his choice.

You can find the article (and some others) here.

Let's be honest; this one of the best movies ever made. It's an annual watch for me, which I still need to do. Thanks for the reminder!

Although not as widely/well known as some of his other titles Flamingo is another masterpiece. Great watch every time!

Back to Aspen, here's another classic oldie from one of Stump's prime mentors...
