Porkies does have the best ski in/ski out lodging anywhere in the midwest!

Should have gone that direction, west/south has been getting dumped on pretty good and we had a gross rain crust up here.

I've been hearing similar. Though I feel kinda bad for the folks taking over. They could do a solid mediocre job (the best you can maybe hope for a new crew running a hill on a shoestring), but they'll never live up what the Gogebic crew running the hill these past few years could do. Will certainly miss them.

Yeah, so about that gross rain crust....

Been cooped up at home too long blowing snow, skiing around the backyard, and working on house projects. Had to get out and make some miles. Had some commitments later this afternoon so I decided to hit Mt. Baldy up near Boho's Voodoo Mountain. It's pretty much an out and back so you can basically ski until you hit half your allotted time, turn around and head back.

Probably should have brought skins, because the scales were having a hell of a time getting grip on the rain crust. But at least somebody blazed a pretty awesome skin track all the way up.

    Almost to the summit....

    ...just about there....

...and made it before being time barred.

    Boho in the distance.

The apres ski sucks here though.

Had to settle for tailgate beers.

Well between moving into and starting remodeling on a new (old) house and trying to hunt as much as possible with my 10 year old Lab before she can't, we finally made it out last week.

Had to drive around the north end of Lake Michigan and down to Petoskey for my father's wedding so we skied Boyne Highlands Thursday. First time skiing lower Michigan. Decent until the mist moved in around 1, then the fog, and you couldn't see more than 75 feet heading downhill. Cool to ski somewhere new but if I am going to drive 3-4 hours I'm going to Ironwood or the Porkies.

Plan was to run up to Brule yesterday but no one wanted to spend 2 hours in the truck there and back. Went to Paul Bunyan in Lakewood instead. 1 T-bar and 2 tow ropes, 125ish feet of vert, 3 runs, lots of stoke. Kids lapped the t-bar for 5 hours straight, mama and I could take a seat at the bottom and still be able to watch the kids ski, and it's only 45 minutes from home.

Got about a foot of snow here in the MSP area (!!!), and it's been wet heavy stuff, which should groom up REALLY NICE. This should make the season last a few extra weeks if the temps get a tad cooler, which they will be doing this weekend! We haven't hit our "snowy season" yet, and I think we're almost 3x where we typically are at this time of the year!

Christie Mountain was awesome today. I showed up today expecting perfect corduroy, and while that was mostly true, they had left the 2 steepest runs ungroomed. Out came the 114 wide Gunsmokes and I had a fucking blast.

If you are not following the latest Freeride Systems thread, you should. MiCol’s latest project is a maggot-exclusive hard shell vest with a hood.

Here I am BROmodeling it at Christie Mountain this weekend.

(hey AxeBiker, recognize that green Patagonia puffy ?)

Thank you for sharing the latest fashion trends on what the best skier at Christie Mountain sports when laying down the carve! Is there space in that vest for a shovel and probe?

Wijara race weekend at Chestnut. Season opener. Despite a bunch of rain and warm weather the snow held up amazingly well. Damned near FIS quality snow on the track. I snuck a couple snapshots of my daughter when I was supposed to be working the course radio.

The entire resort is skiing very nicely right now, and everything is open.

Epic day at the Ridge yesterday. And when I say “epic” I mean bluebird and perfect groomers. Put the girls in private lessons and the wife and I got to do laps for an hour. We haven’t skied alone for 7+ years and it was really nice.

My girls (7 and 5) are fucking STOKED on skiing. We had a major breakthrough for the youngest yesterday and they did not want to leave. This is a major departure from our first day this season with the little one not wanting to even try.

Cool that your groms are stoked for skiing. You should get your kids in a couple of more lessons with the same instructor that got them stoked and breakthrough(ed)

Kid stoke turns into adult stoke as they age. My kids (ha! kids, 30 and 27 years old) still look forward to winter and going out west for our annual trip

Lots going on in the Midwest, very cool to see!

I need to get better at taking some pictures, you guys are doing a great job.

It’s been a good season at the Village, lots of snow this year and not much brown showing. We should have plenty of snow late into the season.

Some pictures from the past few weeks Deep at the Village.

I finally get to ski with my daughter tomorrow evening, I think I’m more excited than she is. Enjoy the time with the kiddos. Once they get to high school the time for skiing with dad gets a little thin.

Heading to Giants, and Snowriver/Big powderhorn next
week if anyone is interested in making turns.

    Have a great season!

Awesome legal weed shop there in Ironwood. It’s in a converted former big box store, like an old Kmart or something. It’s called Rise. Right on US-2, just after you cross the state line.

Always good to see this thread alive and well...thanks ugly, Harry, and all others for all the pics and stoke!

Anyone been up to Bohemia this season? how's it skiing, what's coverage like? Was looking to head up next weekend possibly hitting up Whitecap and/or big powderhorn, and/or Porkies. Can always push it back a weekend too.

Haven't been to boho proper yet, but have done some skiing in the vicinity up in the keweenaw. Had a good start to winter that got us some decent coverage, but haven't seen anything else in weeks so whatever is there is likely skied out. Also, it's raining now so things are just going to get grosser. I'm not in a rush to get up there.

Sounds like the Ironwood/Bessemer area has just been getting pounded with snow this year though, but not sure how this rain is treating them.
