We could take pics every time we see one on the road and post them here!

Maybe covered in the other links provided, but in addition to the final assembly requirement, there’s also a battery manufacturing requirement:

Model 3 owners: talk me out of/into buying one.
I'm looking at weekly 100+ mile freeway trips for the next several years. No snow. No need to move anything other than people. Will do the occasional city to city road trip. Don't care about the electric cost vs gas math. The plan is get solar in the not too distant future. I just don't want to be listening to the drone of an IC engine and/or driving a truck.
What I really want to know is do you actually like the thing? I've ridden in 3s and Ss for short trips, and they're quiet and comfortable enough. Does that change two hours into a trip? Or two years into ownership?
Regardless of whether the technology is any good, Tesla is just really bad at manufacturing.

And it’s not just QC, or whatever, they just don’t give a fuck:

Social clickbait garbage links, Barron. You are quoting someone on Twitter that's named Count Bonkula? And The Drive, which is one of the shittiest clickbait car site in existence? We all know Telsa has issues but that doesn't help for overall context.
Anyways I own a tesla 3 and after 4 years it's held up fine comfort-wise. I think the inside is cheaply made and won't hold up like most other cars for 100,000 miles of wear and tear on the inside, and cars like MB have a much quieter cabin. You can hear road noise a bit more in a Model 3, but of course without the gas engine it's still peaceful.
If you get one, just look it over before taking delivery carefully. When I bought mine twitter was full of pics of shitty body panel gaps. Mine had none.
After 36,000 miles I had a trunk that wouldn't open manually which was a known issue with a cable and it was fixed for free. Maybe I'm lucky.
Muted to the electric car phone please...
What is really stupid is the AWD Model 3 is only available right now in a performance configuration with 20" wheels.
Give me an AWD with 18' wheels and standard brakes, standard power. Hell 17" wheels would be better yet. Midwest and intermountain west hate big wheels. And while I'm complaining, it isn't just Tesla. Dumbest trend ever to go with these huge wheels. But the AWD Model 3 is 62k. Way out of the everyman's price range anyway (for a sedan, joe average has no problem with a $1000 payment on their truck).
The Iqonic 5 is right around 50k with AWD. With some incentive money thrown behind that...but not really available even at 50k.
Electric cars are supposed to be getting cheaper, but they seem to be going the wrong direction, save for the Bolt. Which is probably a good option if you can overlook all the people who can't get parts and who have waited forever for battery replacements on the older versions.
More hope for the future announced today at least. https://www.nytimes.com/2022/08/29/b...ery-plant.html
Ted are you looking at the base Model 3 then? At least that is available with the 18" wheels. Definitely a pretty good deal at 47k and change.
Sorry you don’t like those particular link, but seriously, there’s no shortage of these things:

I work in manufacturing. I’ve been in a Tesla factory. I have a signed NDA with them, so I’ll stick with linking to public reports.
I'm just here to report that our Nissan leaf, 2015 model, is still the most reliable cheapest to own car i have ever had in my life. I think it kind of sucks to drive, but wife likes it. Yes the range isn't very good, but she drives it every day all over town taking kids to stuff, getting groceries, etc, and it doesn't cost a dime to operate. We have a pretty serious solar array on the house. (This reminds me, i probably need to pop in and pay my minimal electric bill despite the ac cranking...).
I do need to get new tires for it. It was $12k a few years ago. Has just under 60k miles on it now. It is perfect for running around town.
My V8tt Mercedes sedan is the ultimate high speed freeway cruise missile. Fast, quiet, comfortable. Just sayin...
sigless.
your description sounds like Tesla owners really love their cars but Tesla is bad at manufacturing (or alternatively- the buyers don’t care about quality). It’s just damn weird to drive by the dealer “service center” and see barely five colors of cars, especially for a direct order company. Porsche makes $$$$ selling assholes fancy colors & options. Because they can make them.
yikes!
But they did take care of him: posts 229 and 231
^^^This is why I'm asking here. My step-mom has a T3. I asked if she liked it, and she said something like it's the best car she's ever owned. But all she really knows about cars is how to drive one. And I haven't looked it over with the 'I might buy one' level of scrutiny.
My neighbor is enough of a fanboi, that's he's buying a second one.
A friend owns a Leaf - which are everywhere in this town. Perfect grocery getter, and a small-to-medium dog can actually sit in the back fairly comfortably. But useless to me. If I'm going to the grocery/brewery, I'm on a bicycle.
Are they ok in the snow around town?
Sent from my iPhone using TGR Forums
In general I would say that given equal tires, a FWD EV is a little better than a similarly sized FWD ICE in snow just because they are heavier with the weight low and centered in the car, but not as good as an AWD car.
@muted, that's good info, thanks. I've seen/heard most of the quality complaints as well, but know enough people who own them without issue, so... [shrugging emoji] And they're so popular in this town that selling one wouldn't be too difficult.
@uglymoney, yeah don't need or want performance or dual motor. Long range would be nice, but not a current option on the RWD.
Yeah, that's my gripe too. (and reddit's) The whole interior feels like an afterthought.
That's on my radar too, but would have to cough up another 10-15 grand. And the nearest dealer is farther away.
Why a Model 3 instead of a Hyundai Ioniq 5?

(Serious question, by the way. They seem like competitors to me, but I haven’t dug in enough to figure out pluses/minuses of each.)
It used to be that way because there was no competitors - you just hoped for the best. And shit links are shit links, I'm not defending tesla just saying don't post tweets from doctor parakeet bonger as fact. I would LOVE it more people bought EVs, I don't care if it's a tesla or not.
Volts are know for catching fire, yes. Some gas cars have issues that make them catch fire too but people like you love EV click bait about the dangers of EVs. If you don't count shitty volts, EVs catch fire less than gas cars. That could change though, ha. What I wrote is relevant to know and with some context. Your post is just a link with no context or point and I see it done all over the web and I don't get it.
