I'm pretty new to the tele world and only done it one time. I'm looking for advice for someone that's new to tele. I'd like to get a setup for next season if possible. Something 300 or so for the whole deal boots skis and bindings. I had way to much fun and since I mainly ski Mad River Glen its pretty common to see people ripping around on tele skis and it makes me want to do it even more. Any advice is helpful. Hopefully I don't sound to much like a kook.
You should be able to pickup a used set up pretty easily.
I was on a cat trip with Nick Devor a couple of weeks ago. He was one of the top tele skier out there, until he crashed big in the BC and had to be FFL out.
Said he hardly tele’s at all anymore.
Probably.
I saw two cute shredbetties today with matching Tele team jackets. They were both on fixed heel AT gear.
I rarely see any tele skiers actually going uphill anymore, most everyone’s on AT.
Wasn’t that originally the point of Tele?
‘Telemark skiing; twice the weight half the efficiency.’
What my buddy tells me as we begin each tour, him being on dynafit and skis/boots that are featherweight, me being on axls t1 and old school billygoats. His legs are twigs mine are old growth tree trunks.
@peter k…. Resounding yes on sub 300 setup, with 75mm. Freeheel life has good lineup of used boots, used ski/ binding combos. Keep an eye on Craigslist and Facebook marketplace, people are constantly dumping their telemark garbage. None of my setups are over 350$

the best skier is the one having the most fun------DC
Free heelers are definitely still going uphill, but it is true - since the resorts have started allowing uphill travel I've yet to see a free heeler on the uphill, all AT. Perhaps they have no need to show off their skinning skills to the lift riding masses.
I think the point is to have fun and progress and learn and stay in shape and smile and hoot and holler.
I <heart> hot tele-moms
A few times at mammoth in the late 90’s/early 00’s, I’d take the free bus to the main lodge, climbed the service road to the top of chair 23, lap chair 23 until my legs were toast, ski out to the main lodge and take the bus back to my place. E99’s and snowfields (no skins). Patrol never seemed to care.
I wanna see some skate skiers doing the uphill (and downhill) at the resorts.
Skijoring ascent would be sweet, too.
Just some tele quiver stoke! I may have strayed from the free heel for quite a few years but I’m definitely back, and slowly pulling the alpine clamps for outlaws.
Yesterday there were 8 other tele skiers out at the wood dropping knees with me, so I think the free heel is far from dead….

Had my new-this-year lynxes (30-ish days on them) pop off today after randomly swithing into tour mode. This is a new development in the past 2 weeks, but it is rather concerning. Anyone else had this problem?
