One of the most vocal about thanks brandon and gas prices on my social media feed drives an F350 jacked with a lift, always has his sled on the back of it, even though he complains he only gets out 3 times a month to ride it, etc... I don't feel bad for that. What it'll do to drive inflation on the 'gallon of milk' metric... that is a bit of a more nuanced conversation.

Did my usual daily morning Craigslist browsing and it is getting BOMBARDED with a bunch of pretty newish (and expensive) large trucks and SUVs. People probably scrambling to ditch their gas guzzlers to get top dollar while they still can. Bwahahahahaha!

Gotta laugh at all the rubes who bought $50K+ luxury gas guzzlers who thought cheap gas was somehow going to last forever. Gonna be fun watching prices plummet on these vehicles and seeing everyone collectively be underwater on their jumbo 10 year vehicle loans. Screw 'em.

Until someone starts talking about odd even rationing, 55 MPH speed limit everywhere again, and mandatory thermostat min in summer and max in winter you kids need to just chill the fuck out and relax..

These gas prices are really tough to swallow when you need a large vehicle and do 300+ miles a day working. Getting a more efficient vehicle the size I need is only sort of possible and with the car market all blown up it's not feasible. No, a smaller vehicle isn't possible and to get 10mpg more would cost $40k or so and there's nothing electric on the market that would satisfy my work needs (yet). It's not always about making good decisions, changing habits or just sucking it up. In my case I don't earn if I don't travel and show up and I need to travel with very large samples or I have nothing to sell off of but I won't earn more by traveling more so it's the same earnings with dramatically increased costs. The solution is to add more brands to sell with each dealer visit which means a larger vehicle...

Right, or, eventually you’d have to raise your prices which is why the cost of everything will rise more quickly while gas is high. We’re just not that protected from inflation resultant from fuel price spikes. IMHO of course. Actually, we probably are insulated from it to a large degree compared to some alternate scenario, but it’s still got a large factor so an economist can put a better label on what I’m trying to say.

not really sure what a codb is but it sounds like you can claim any/ all expenses against whatever $$$$$$ you make on your taxes ?

i used to do that fixing HW, I would buy a vehical 10% down, write off whatever expenses i could and get a big check from IRS every year, but IBM paid us expense $$$$ according to their table of what a late model chevy should/ would cost as calculated by some large accounting firm and they were aiming to pay for just 60% of your impala. The mother corp had to do this cuz revenue Canada tried to keep us from the extra benifit of IBM just writing expense checks willy nilly

so everybody doing the high milage remote fixn was driving a VW TDi

As an independent commissioned rep driving an E150 in the late 70's I adapted to the situation :

-Learned to draft 10' behind semis on I90
-Kept my speed under 65. Even of I was running late.
-Days I didn't drive I recorded 150 miles in the log book for the tax man
- We'd get what we called a "gas" line. Another product to sell. For me it was bras to compliment stretch pants. Maybe chain lube of bike locks for you?

@ 406: wtf? here in the EC in a high-tax state it was $4.12 just up the road from where I am now and nobody at the pumps.

A month ago CA average was in the $4.70 range. I was listing credit card price...so a little less if cash. I think there is some price gouging, plus higher tax & high demand. I find it odd that in LA you can stand at a gas station, see it being pumped out the ground and refined, but still pay some of the highest price in CA.

California’s high fuel prices are partly because of taxes as well as regulatory programs aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Together, they added about $1.27 to the cost of a gallon of gas last month, according to a calculation by the Western States Petroleum Association. About 40 percent of that cost comes from the state’s gasoline tax. California taxes fuel at 51.1 cents per gallon, the second-highest amount in the nation after Pennsylvania, according to the Federation of Tax Administrators.

Kevin Slagle, a spokesman with the petroleum association, based in Sacramento, said gas prices also tended to be higher here because the state was a “fuel island.” California produces enough gasoline to meet 30 percent of its needs, and the rest is imported from Alaska or other countries, he said. There are no interstate pipelines carrying gasoline into the state.

That means that all imports must come by ship or truck, both of which are more costly. (If you’re wondering, California’s biggest foreign importers of crude oil are Ecuador, Saudi Arabia and Iraq, according to the California Energy Commission.)
