Agree on second part - not so sure about the first

RU may invade, but I doubt they can hold/run the country for any length of time.
Asymmetric warfare is a bitch for occupying armies (Iraq anyone?). Especially when you are trying to hold the place with unmotivated conscripts, and NATO is backing the opposition

And most importantly, when the general population wants you out. Fighting a few fringe terrorists is one thing, but when its an entire population you're fucked, no matter what army you are. Very very few exceptions throughout history, mostly islands.

Absolutely I'd be ok with $8 gas and even higher if it means shutting down Russia's nonsense. Again, this is war. If that's what it takes for Americans to our part to help, then I'm all for it. That said, $8 gas would be an absolute boon for the domestic E&P industry if only the Biden admin allows for it. Now if we see $8 gas and Bidens sucking OPEC cok to supply us, then no. That's not cool. We have plenty here to go around. It's bullshit we import at all, let alone from Russia of all countries. Big WTF there. I don't see it hitting that high though even with Russia out of the picture but I could be wrong and I'd still be ok with it. Screw Putin!

I can't cut back much more than I already have but I guess I could try. Wife and I already only has one vehicle for the both of us, so we have to plan accordingly and be VERY efficient with our time out. Hardly use any gas at home either. Also staunchly anti-truck/suv for 99% of use cases. We live extremely efficiently and eco-friendly in our personal lives.

Not sure if you're lumping me in with the brodozer crowd but that's not me. Believe it or not, I've even transitioned to renewables and green energy production as have many of my former O&G colleagues. TX is the nations leader in wind production. I've been involved with energy storage lately too. LOTS going on here on that front which I won't get much more into, but believe me, it's exciting what's going on.

something else i was thinking about is that it is so hard to catch one guy. look how long it took to get bin laden and some of the ISIS guys. ukraine is hardly afghanistan + where in the world is carmen san diego but Russia won’t tolerate a prolonged bloody occupation at home. the war is not popular and the myth of russian might will pop once it’s full of bodies.

I know we are only a few days in but if they can win the information war and keep Z talking to governments for a month or two, it will be untenable for to keep troops there) I hope.

not that i envy Z or the populace there or want any bloodshed at all. i just hope they can break this convoy and prevent grozny.

great time for georgia to clear their borders and chechens to step up, russia can’t fight on every front.

fuck putin, russian troops go home.

He’s going to be calling up reservists if he hasn’t already.

I think our admin is clamming up now about troop movements etc as to not create a panic. I feel like Biden really threw everything he had at this to prevent it. It was unprecedented, which shows you how sad it is because now we are in a process of escalation like we’ve never seen in our lifetime.

    Sorry for doom and gloom.

I've got this harlot that I'm stuck with carrying another man's child
The solitary star announcing vacancy burnt out as we arrived
They'd throw us back across the border if they knew that we survived
And they were surprised to see us
So they greeted us with palms
They asked for ammunition, acts of contrition and small alms

Wake me up, wake me up, wake me up, wake me up, wake me up

I've got this imaginary radio, and I'm punching up the dial
I've got the A.C. trained on the T.V. so it won't blow up in my eye
And everything that I thought fanciful or mocked as too extreme
Must be family entertainment here in the strange land of my dreams
And I'm practising my likeness of St. Francis of Assisi
And if I hold my hand outstretched
A little bird comes to me

And I might recite a small prayer
    If I ever said them
I lay down on an iron frame
    And found myself in Bedlam
Stepping on the fingers that were stretching through the bars
    Wailing echoes down the corridors

Wake me up, wake me up, wake me up, wake me up, wake me up

They've got this scared and decorated girl strapped to the steel trunk of a Mustang
They drove her down a cypress grove where traitors hang and stars still spangle
They dangled flags and other rags along a coloured thread of twine
They dragged that bruised and purple heart along the road to Palestine

Someone went off muttering, he mentioned thirty pieces
Easter saw a slaughtering, each wrapped in bloodstained fleeces

My thoughts returned to vengeance but I put up no resistance
Though I seemed a long way from my home
    It really was no distance

    The Ringtone rang out "Jerusalem"
    Into the pit of sadness
    Where the wretched plunge
    We've buried all the Innocents
    We must bury revenge

Has he, though? Has he? As long as we're STILL giving the Russians untold millions of $$$ every day via petroleum imports, then I'm not buying it that we've done all we can. It's insane we haven't 100% halted ALL Russian imports already.

Another WTF with Europes pussy footing around is how there have been some convenient little carveouts from the sanctions so Italy can keep exporting Gucci and other luxury good, and Belgium can keep selling diamonds to Russia. Gotta keep them oligicarchs' super model wives happy you know!

If the Ukes can keep the Ruskies stymied there for another couple weeks the territory behind them will thaw and be muddy swamp land they can't drive their vehicles through to retreat or more support to them from Russia. They'll be trapped there. Fish in a barrel!

When they start mass murdering cities, we cut oil and all trade.

We have to have somewhere to go on sanctions when Russia escalates the situation. Otherwise your only option in to intervene militarily... or do nothing.

Yup, TX is absolutely first class. They’re definitely not pushing for O&G subsidies. And your energy grid is top notch, just look at last winter.

Its good on you for lowering your footprint. And I definitely didn’t realize the investment in wind production. But its a bit of a stretch not to pretend that TX govt and corporations aren’t heavily connected to Saudi, RU.

And a huge stretch to pretend that there wouldn’t be massive political upheaval in TX if gas hit $5 per gallon let alone $8 per gallon. Many of your neighbors suck Putin dick. But they don’t suck Benny dick because its too big, even for Texas.

    My suggestion of the day:
With all of the Seized assets around the world, a fund needs to be created ASAP in order to rebuild Ukraine to not just where it was before, but better. Especially assets taken from Russian oligarchs and businesses that have previously profited in Ukraine, but haven’t protested.
Make it hurt in the most symbolic way possible.

It just occurred to me that in the coming years, Russians traveling abroad will have to say they’re Ukrainian, just like traveling Americans had to say they were Canadian after the Iraq invasion.

FIFA, Hockey, pretty much everything sports related is done with Russia and Russians. Going to be interesting to see how NHL handles things.. Maybe just no pay sent to Russia. Most of the players have spoken out against the war..

Idk thinking with UA cities all surrounded and UA on the defensive while the convoy of doom approaches it may be time for the west to somehow get a no fly zone happening. We've kicked the can down the road long enough. #weneedZ

I'm impressed at the breadth of the sanctions. Feels like Biden (and a few other heads of state) must have been working on those behind the scenes for quite a while.

Also helps that, for maybe the first time ever, Biden managed to win the propaganda war and queue up anti-russian / anti-invasion sentiment ahead of this thing.

The NHL has historically acted as a refuge for Russian players wishing to escape the mother land. It is not the same as it was a long time ago with the most recent player being Geno Malkin's situation, however, I am sure most Russian NHL players have US bank accounts.

This will certainly be the next breaking point. If the US has any involvement in enforcing a no fly zone, it will be the start of WW3.

We have engineering offices in both Kyiv and Moscow at my work. Just got an email today from someone in Moscow saying they won't be able to do any work until the export licenses are rewritten, since the old ones are now obsolete, but that they'd be good to go after that. I'm thinking, dude, it's going to take a little more than just getting the export control issues resolved before we can start getting Russian help again!
