Friendly reminder everyone here forgot to pay retail in any significant number for LP105s, Bodacious, RC 112s or any other long radius ‘chargers’ over the last decade. Worth noting as we start our annual bitch fest about individual specifications on skis we haven’t skied.

Noted, but every reputable company should have at least one model that's so badass they lose money on every model sold,as an aspirational idea. Then they can sell a shit ton of lower performing skis with virtually the same graphics to tourists. Because it's the right thing to do.

I actually did pay retail for both Ragnaroks and LP105s circa 2011, though.

Yep. As is judging a ski based on the turn radius alone since shapes play a big role as well. But hey can’t brag in the lift line about your 50m super duper macho skis while riding P18’s set to 8. Lol

Does anyone [here] pay full retail for anything we buy skiing related? But point taken. Those skis never sell in volume and never make money.

I like getting all the charger folks stirred up with the smaller radius chatter. I bet most people here will actually like the new M-Pro108. Based on the MFree108, I’m optimistic.

It just dawned on me…my 186 K2 Mindbender 108 has a 22.9-m radius. Next year it will have a larger radius than the M-Pro108. [emoji15]

How can you even manage to ski so many skis? If you fully click in with a given model why do you need like 3 another pairs in the same category?

All honesty, I had that same issue for a while. One day I walked into the garage and had 10 (or 11, not sure) skis between 110mm and 128mm wide. Grabbed a pair I didn’t love any more and didn’t really enjoy skiing that day, wished I was on something else all day. I’m down to 3 pairs between 110 and 128mm, and I’m trying to justify getting down to 2 and being happy.

And then these internet dweebs sell skis before even skiing them because they are convinced that it isn't the right ski for them-- which begs the question, Why did you even buy it if you didn't think it was right?

70% of TGR is full of skiers who will swear by a given ski. 29% of TGR kinda know what they want. 1% kinda ski everything and think they know everything. The 1% also write a lot. So there's that.

Actually I'm like a low budget version of KC and Bandit, I might get 2-3 skis each year that I think I would like. I ski them a dozen or so times to confirm my bias, keep what I liked and move the rest. I'm fortunate to have access to pro accounts and work for a resort so I'm usually buying new at a discount which allows me to move them along at a good deal for the next user and keeping my investment low-ish. I don't have a work space to mount my own these days so I trade bud lights to our shop guys for mounts, one of them I trust.

I'm a shitty reviewer though so I don't write about them much.

You can take their opinion with just as much sincerity (or more so) as the next person. The sheer # of days on snow per season/ ability to try different skis in different conditions/ network with other skiers reinforces their credibility- no? It probably helps if you can relate to their style of skiing. Yes, you can learn to like a ski, get to know its nuances/ strengths/ weaknesses. However, if you have the means to flip skis without much of a financial hit- much healthier for you than a lot of other vices displayed in this board. I would even argue that your marriage analogy would be better served as a dating analogy, ie figuring things out before you make the commitment. Buying without skiing = impulse purchase (I think we can all relate to this) Let's bump the 1% up a bit so that I can live vicariously through more of them; buy their gently used equipment and read their reviews for entertainment.

It is skiing....on the internet.... after all. Choose happy or choose the ignore feature on the forum.

Guilty as charged!

I grew up in the family ski shop business and always loved having access to demo skis. I guess that has carried over to my own gear. What is also not apparent to most here is that I put demo bindings on 90% of my skis now that my 18-yo son is bigger. That way he can ski my stuff, too. All my ski buddies love it, as they also benefit. They like to come over to sample the demo fleet regularly, and I kind of enjoy the whole process of getting their input on skis and such.

One more factor that is not apparent is the whole "carpe diem" thing. I have had two of my closest ski buddies die over the past decade and they were both way too young. They both loved the gear side of things and we used to talk gear and do demo days together (one was in the industry like me way back when). If I want to try some new sticks, I typically look for a decent price and just buy them (often used). I mount all my own stuff and have a stockpile of bindings (shocking, huh?), so that keeps down the overall "investment cost". If I don't like something, I lose no more than $50 most of the time when I flip it. I don't like to wait until next season since my buddies never got another one.

But I'm okay with being the 1%. And I do buy a lot of "sloppy seconds" from Skibrd.

In defense of Bandit Man, and what everyone else is missing, is that trying out and comparing skis is a valid (and fun) hobby. Why impose one mindset (I want a single ski in a class) on another mindset? Did anyone pop in here and say “how can you ski a single ski in a class? I don’t get it. You win the LCSE award (Least Curious Skier Award)”. No. (minus this post haha)

We all love skiing. That’s just the beginning, not the end of the hobby. Don’t shit on someone else’s parade

I straight up make a lot of bad purchases. I can usually tell in a run or two if a ski is what I’m looking for but I struggle to find what I’m looking for in demo fleets. I usually call around, fail to find my size in a demo fleet, and tell myself I can sell them for the cost of a demo. So I end up flipping a lot of good skis that aren’t what I’m looking for.

Skis I loved recently:
New Sir Francis Bacon in 190cm
Kastle XX110

Ski that was nothing like I expected but am keeping anyway because it’s really good, just not what I was looking for:
Faction CT3.0 (side note, I’m surprised this isn’t a crowd favorite 50/50 tour ski here)

Skis I need to flip:
ON3P Kartel 116
Line Outline 186cm

Skis I have mounted and yet to ski:
Line Blade (I’m pretty sure these will be a riot)
ON3P C&D (I’m only 50% confident I will love these, might be too chargerish)

I guess that makes me the 29%? I think I know what I want I’m just not super great at finding it all the time

Gaijin - I wanted you to know that you are the one who helped me find my current favorite skis (the M102 and K108). Reading your review of a ski I have dismissed got me "M102 Curious". That led to a Whistler demo, which lead to an M102 purchase, which led to my kid skiing the M102's, which displaced his Enforcer 100's. I decided not to buy another M102 but the K108 and look what happened from there? You were the spark. The 70% triggering the 1%. And so the cycle goes.

But I have been married to the same girl for 26-years, so I guess I'm not the 1% there.

My guess would be never? It’s a dancing at Cloud 9 boot, not a touring boot. Now I’ve never been to Cloud 9, but I’ve heard stories.

Bandit, speaking of you and me and skis, when are you sending the Sender Squads back my way, and any interest in giving BMX 115s a shot? I’m not skiing as much this winter, I’ve been stuck on a ship since Jan 10, was supposed to get off Feb 22, but looks more like mid March, so my ski buying/using is WAY down.

I like the colors of that new Lange. Green is my favorite color, but the bright green XT was, Idk, just felt a bit off.

Best memory was 2016 Highlands Closing Day when a guy had a wood wine crate full of $1 bills and was shooting bills out into the crowd. Must have blown through a few hundred bucks. We all stuffed handfuls into out costumes. Peasants...

Another guy was out there with a champagne squirt gun that "only fit magnums" ($400 for a Veuve magnum at Cloud 9..) and was shooting everyone outside.

Gaijin.....while you were typing this post I was skiing my new 184cm 2022 4FRNT Ravens.

Let's ask the tgr collective who is more useful?

PS I paid for the Ravens by selling my never-skied, 2022 K108s at a $100 loss. I switched to the Ravens and the 4-Lock skins as I got a 20% discount code off at 4FRNT = $226 saved. Apparently I made $126?

So it appears that in addition to being kind of a dick, you're also bad at math?

But I appreciate the attention. And I'm definitely honored to be compared to banditman.
