Predictable after the GS race with that wierd super arid snow.

She needs to breath. Just a ski race. She still has a lot of ass kicking to do. Also no pressure in the speed events.

Does anybody know who was sitting next to her on course? Couldn't tell.

    Just a ski race.

yes. But This is what she has done for eight years ( and probably four years before that... ).

    Stuff happens.
you can't blame the snow -
    MS has plenty of experience...

it's been two strange years -

    five events -
Sub-optimal training for more than two years...
I would agree with Not racing until the Combined ( - Or back to the WorldCup )

    hang in, MS ! !

    Fair.

Tuning skis for that hill is a bit of an unknown though. They haven't raced that course for 80 years like some of the yurp hills. Maybe they got it wrong.

    Or maybe it's her head.

    Let's see what she says.

Hate to say it but did any other racer make more than a combined eight gates on two different courses on different skis on different days? All of them except her?

It's in her head. Can't imagine the tech for the best skier in the history of the sport blew it two races in a row.

    Lots of contributing factors -

reminds me on the 1982 World Championships -
Phil had been dominant coming in...

and overcooked both the slalom and the GS.
    it happens -

Still love to watch her race !

Such a bummer. She looks pretty emotional after that. Gotta be a flood of emotions after everything and with all of the pressure. Hope she crushes the rest.

    clarification -
I believe what she said initially was that she, ' questioned her skiing, - and when asked, 'What do you mean ? '
    MS's response was,
' ( (just) my skiing ) - everything in the last fifteen years... '

    She also said,
' There's a lot going on here - more than just my little situation... '

did anyone else notice the look in her eyes as NOB was being cared for at the Finish of the GS ?

    Just my Opinion, But
I don't think she is into it -

Overexposed, And Not prepared for five
    different events in two weeks
( I don't have the details, but I would be surprised if she has done more than three different events ( maybe five races ) in two weeks before --
What was her schedule for the '19 World Chmpioships ?

She is mostly independent, but I would not encourage her to race (super-G) on Friday.

    Good luck ! skiJ

I get that it was a let down, that sucks, but suck it up, get your ass off the slope and come back and win the next race. No other racer who fucked up, sat there like a spoiled child who didn’t get their way. I say this and I’m a Shiffrin fan.

    dude.
This was 'the next race. '
in slalom - the discipline MS has dominated for seven of the last eight years.

Yes - she needed to clear the course.
But she was against the fence within sight of the Start.

And if we are seeing the end of her career, MS deserves a lot better than "suck it up "

( pretty sure LV set a precedent in 2014, necessitating JM to re-run when Mancuso was on a fastest time... )

    But, yes. Clear the course.

Why would this be the end of her career?

Maybe she was just off her game from the anal probing?

What am I missing. The snow was tough half the field DQED

I don't know the rules but I'm surprised race officials let Shiff sit there and not clear the course.

That was my initial thought as well, but on one of the zoom outs they showed she was clearly well behind and against an outer netting and separated by an inner B net so as not to be on the active course.

I’m really bummed for the GOAT.

I think that her head is not in the right place. Whether it is the snow, anticipation, love or seeing two favorites ski poorly before her in the GS, she is not mentally where she should be. This is starting to remind me of Bode's 2006 bid for olympic medals

She's been fun to watch for 15 years... i just hope she shuts off the internet for a while, finds a storm cycle ...and enjoys some obscure powder skiing.

    respectfully ,
I don't think skiing is what she needs right now...

while I would take a break from the internet and "social media", She may need those outlets
( seems like I remember a comment after Solden, that the 'doubters' had motivated her. ... )

I would be glad to be wrong ( and I certainly do not know her - ) but my sense is after 15years of ski racing, she could use a month at the beach !

Just forget ski racing for a month --
    Then
She can decide what she wants to do.

( it was not that long ago, that Annemarie Moser-Proell retired for a second time at twenty-six and was considered old for a ski racer... )

    Good luck, MS !

    Good luck... and
Thank you, MS - it has been a joy watching MS race ! !!

Why are people so fucking weird about projecting themselves onto athletes?

God forbid they have emotions about something they have spent their entire life working for, they should just get up and move on like a robot.

As long as she doesn't join the 27 club she will be fine. With mental health in mind I just hope she's talking to professional folks to help her decide what to do next this week (ski or go home), next month, and next season. Not unheard of to retire at 27 and go a different direction if she decides this is enough. No doubt she's got many more years of top level skiing left if she wants to bounce back.
