I think it's more about finding out what they have in Baker. Both Stefanski and Berry made kind of a point about how Baker was going to finish the season strong. He didn't.

Stefanski is a control freak. He wants the passing game to be like the running game - no downside (no turnovers) and it's ok to have a limited upside because of that. Baker, at his heart, is more like Farve. Take his chances, throw a few picks, but score some points. I think Stefanski likes Baker because at his best he's highly accurate. Baker clearly does not like Stefanski's offense. A split may be coming.

Mary Kay Cabot, longtime Browns beat writer, wrote an article a month or so ago about how the Browns not only have to choose Baker, but Baker needs to choose the Browns. I'm thinking now that wasn't an accident or coincidence. I'm starting to think that came from Baker's camp. I think he may push for a trade.

If he's not mentally broken I still think he's a good QB, but may need a different system. I could see him and Landry both gone next year. I could see him doing quite well for another team, ala Stafford or Wentz, (or to a lesser extent Tannehill.)

Back to the question: I think Stefanski was feeling there were a few outcomes from playing Baker - he does great and gets past the last 4 INT game, he does poorly and it decreases the cost long term to the Browns to sign him, he does horribly and the Browns know it's time to move on.

The alternatives to Baker are just as scary as a mentally-broken Baker heading out there next year.

This QB was brought up today, would you take him?

14 games started, 11-3 record in those games, 3223 yards, 24 TDs, 12 INTs, 71 QBR.

And you know what happened to Mitchell after that stellar year?

Torn labrum, just like Baker. (throwing arm, but hey)

"And with the 2nd pick of the 2017 draft, the Chicago Bears select Mitchell Trubisky, QB, University of North Carolina"

The ensuing dead silence and a few golf claps from fans of other NFC North teams was priceless that year.

He is one of the better back-ups in the league though.

Danny Dimes might be available according to the scuttlebutt around here. The last trade with the Giants worked for a while.

Does Derrick Carr wear eyeliner? Cause that might affect the Browns' decision to pursue him.

Deshaun Watson? How morally flexible is Andrew Berry?

Mitchell? Hometown guy, what could go wrong?

Is Mike White still under contract with the Jets?

Watson or Wilson are the two guys you go after, but the Browns don't have nearly the draft capitol needed.

Re morally flexible: Berry extended Kareem Hunt.

Mike White should be available. Up until 3 weeks ago it was looking like Zach Wilson was available too. But since he almost beat Brady last weekend, Jets fans are convinced he's the future now. It's a very fickle fan base around here, so he could be available again if they get beat by the Bills this weekend.

I graciously accept both your invitations. I thought that was what the PR was all about, no?

How would Jimmy G look in a Brown's uniform? The porn star talent in upper Ohio will be quite a few levels below the coast but you play the hand that's delt to you.

One of the Kardazians lived in Cleveland until very recently courtesy of Tristan Thompson, and that Pete Davidson bro-brah Machine Gun Kelly lives there at least part of the time and he's currently living with Megan Fox so there is some precedent of bringing morally casual ladies to the North Coast.

Jimmy G may not get a say in the matter though as you accurately point out.

Although this is a bit more serious unlike some threads here in the PR. We're trying to find a new QB for the Browns.

I'm glad we've refocused. No Browns fan here is interested in hearing stories about how beloved Big Ben is in Pissburgh.

    Well, that's 100% true.

And yes, this may be the most serious thread on TGR at the moment. Lives in the balance and what not.

With the exception of the pole strap thread of course...

Honestly, it's a return to normalcy, this discussion.

The never-ending quest for a new QB for the Browns.

And some thought the Expedition to Map the Upstate was taking a while.

I feel like now could be a good time to uncork a bottle of "81" and reflect on these words from the great Terrell Owens.

“A lot of people have to deal with the feeling that their worlds are caving in. But if you align expectations with reality, you will never be disappointed.”

Like acostiga, I'm from Pittsburgh. I grew up there in the '70s, when we were the City of Champions. I don't think I had an "irrational hatred for neighboring, basically similar midwestern/mid atlantic cities". It would be better described as contempt. Our attitude towards Cleveland, in particular, boiled down to "yeah. Their river caught on fire."
