My sister and BIL were vaccine hold outs who just got their first rounds. My BIL who is a good dude comes from a faux news family who’s all come around recently. Between my BIL losing two high school friends that were healthy in their 40s and the Pfizer approval- he was finally convinced.
Went to a vax required outdoor concert last night and had an incredible time. Reminiscent of the old life/days. Our group had a interesting and obviously realization as we looked around and observed- there was likely no conspiracy weirdos anywhere to be found. I like this vax passport shit. Great filter.

Unfortunately I think that's how most of these folks are going to have to learn--the hard way, when they lose a friend or loved one. It will happen to all of them eventually, but it will take time.

This is a month old and there have been dozens more of these stories in the meantime, but I've been searching for a list that compiles all the anti-vax covid-is-a-hoax people who have died or almost died of covid, and this was the best I could find. If anyone has a better or more updated list please post it.

In other news, I got a message today on FB from a Serbian girl that works at an account I service. She is overweight and has diabetes and a heart condition but true story she was hot as hell when she was younger. Been pestering her for months twice a week when I see her. More pestering this morning. Told her to get her shot after work and...she finally did! It has more to do with her teenaged daughter getting vaccinated this week and her pestering I think but still feels good and I gave her more than enough information to make the proper decision with my incessant preaching. Hopefully a life saved.

I disagree. Natural immunity vs vaccine is damn near the same. I’ll rely on the natural antibodies my body made after fighting off Covid rather than this vaccine that’s going to be changed and updated every year to deal with the “new pandemic level strain” of the Covid flu virus. I have no problems with hospitals taking care of the vaccinated first and then using whatever leftover resources to help the non-vaccinated. I have no problems with jacking up the insurance costs for the non-vaccinated. But when you start to remove certain unalienable rights (such as pursuit of happiness by restricting where certain people can and can’t go) that’s where I draw the line. It amazes me that the pro-vax crowd here is totally behind totalitarian lockdowns, quarantines, and basically throwing a Star of David on people as long as it fits their agenda.

In one sense, I don't really care how many other countries lost. Our internal policies don't affect other countries.
In that regard, per capita or % is sort of silly and divorces us from the impact of the cost we've incurred.

It's appalling that we've allowed so many to suffer.

I got into it with a conservative leaning friend whose belief is only around 5% of reported COVID deaths were directly caused by the virus. So instead of 650k, it’s 30k. So infuriating.

They're right. Viruses, unlike bacteria can't kill on their own. They use the bodies metabolic machinery. So when someone dies of Covid the virus didn't kill them; they committed suicide.

Natural immunity varies widely, surely a respected immunologist such as yourself knows this. And certainly you know adding a vaccine can reduce risk.

But what I really want is your evidence that natural immunity can keep up with mutations better.

I’ve been a fan of Joe since around 2006ish. His old forum was like ours but so much funnier and he used to post on it a lot. My neighbors in Salt Lake were on ustream pretty early, and I remember the early ustream podcasts, and I loved all the early podcasts before it became so popular.
His move into hunting pushed him into some pretty gun-loving right wing spaces, and this pandemic, combined with the giant spotify money and his new bromance with billionaires and Texas has pushed him pretty far into WTF territory. It’s harming people now, the ivermectin stuff, the thing where he just casually peppers every podcast with scorn for the public health measures and casts doubt on everything we need to do to get this shit under control…. He’s going to end up looking pretty bad when all this is said and done, and it sucks because he used to be a pretty straight-shooter who had all kinds of guests on the podcast. Now it’s just railing right wing guests and right wing talking points…railing about transgender stuff, railing kooky covid misinformation, railing against social justice, railing about guns. It’s gross, and sad, and he should probably just stfu…and we should probably just stop listening until he gets his dumb ass sorted out. .
