My county just came out with a press release summarizing the poor state we’re in our county. Highest weekly case rates and hospitalization experienced so far. They hint that attending the county fair is a bad idea. And they stated that 20% of new cases are breakthroughs and over 90% of hospitalization are unvaxed, but test positivity is over 14, so that data quality is not great.

The right thing to do is to ignore Texas obvious stupidity around any sort of COVID assistance they need and just send it. There are lots of other places where states help each other out around emergencies (fires, earthquakes, building collapses, etc) and it’s dumb to get into a tit for tat political pissing match.

On the other hand, as a taxpayer in a state with increasing COVID cases and ICU use I am concerned that we could be depleting our already stressed healthcare system to bail out a state that can’t even be bothered to take basic precautions so I hope they very carefully weigh how much capacity they need to retain.
