why do these people scare you? If you’re vaccinated, you don’t have anything to worry about; right? It’s the whole reason why the country is (slowly) opening up and why people with vaccines are (again, slowly) being allowed to travel and why they don’t have to wear masks in social settings… you’re protected but the unvaccinated aren’t. The only people they’re putting at risk are themselves.
the vaccines are also not universally effective (both by manufacturer and within different age groups), so it is to the detriment of ‘getting back to normal’ as well as putting the more immunocompromised at risk.
thankfully not everyone has a selfish attitude and can see the forrest beyond the ME.

this x2 ^^ the variants
and the reason the USA is openning up is money

I could be wrong… but I haven’t heard of a “Texas variant” or a “Florida variant” but I have heard of the South Africa variant or the Delta variant. It kind of seems like the places that this virus is going to mutate is the 3rd world countries (granted some places in the Us aren’t far behind) where they don’t have nearly as good of access to healthcare or sanitation.
Mississippi Delta variant.

Yes - it's likely to mutate in *any* unvaccinated population. But just because it's "going to mutate in 3rd world countries" is a fucking MORONIC reason to not get vaccinated here.
I mean - that's kinda like throwing up your hands and lamenting "there's nothing we can do" despite the fact that there IS something we can do.![]()
how do you think covid originally made it out of China if that is in fact where it started ?
By very nice people with lotsa money to fly around the world to meet other very nice people with lotsa money to fly around the world
if you think you are immune you better check it more carefully cuz the next one might kill you
also consider the more covid isnt dealt with the more it affects the world re-openning, your job, you traveling
its just you refusing to take your meds and not getting better

To be honest, the more comments I read, the more I *strongly* am considering becoming a nihilist.![]()

Natural immunity has existed as the de facto form of protection for millions of years.
Vaccines have not been tested over thousands of years of evolution.
According to Lindy's Law and Probability Theory, vaccine technology will recede to Natural Immunity as the best form of protection in another 100 years.
It's backed my math and lots of curves on a graph. LOL.
The interesting stuff for science isn't that the vax worked. The interesting stuff will come out of analyzing the outliers.
Stuff like the heart issues and autoimmune responses are probably the events that will lead to the most promising medical discoveries of our time.
The unexpected is what is expected to be the interesting part going forwards.

Are you sure? You might want to become a nazi instead? I mean at least they had an Ethos......

It's a war of the mind and we're armed to the teeth.
I mean sure, but historically that's been a pretty brutal version of protection.
Plus, it looks like we're coming up on about half a thousand years of vaccination in a very rough sense.
The following are notable events in the Timeline of immunology:
1549 – The earliest account of inoculation of smallpox (variolation) occurs in Wan Quan's (1499–1582) Douzhen Xinfa (痘疹心法).[1]
I'm still working on it. Give me some time.
In other news, wife got her 2nd dose booking notification. I didn't get mine. We called and they say they have no record of my 1st even though I got it at the same time. We will all get it sorted out. It will take extra weeks for them to fix my records. The whole vaccine passport idea is going to be a fiasco if they can't keep track!
Oh yes. Natural infection produces durable and long lasting protection against similar viruses (broad and long-lived). Vaccines for influenza (and maybe sars) are not as effective as other vaccines and they do not produce wide-range immunity or last as long. hence why booster shots are needed. Furthermore, the response to a vaccine may me more/less effective when the virus enters by different sites (deep lung vs throat/nasal) etc..
This is a good review of the durability and agility (future infection by similar viruses) of immune response to natural infection vs. vaccination.
https://www.nature.com/articles/s41577-019-0143-6
"As discussed above, natural infection with influenza viruses can induce long-lived immune responses that potentially provide lifelong protection against specific virus strains. It has been reported that the antibody response to vaccination is much more short-lived and that vaccine effectiveness and antibody titres can wane even within a season"
At the very least, I think it is fair to say that the jury is out on what produces the most durable immune responses. The costs to our health care system and personal health costs aside - one may be better, or both may be best, or both may be limited depending on the virus.
And remember, like HIV, it isn't the virus that kills. It is all the other sicknesses the person gets that they are unable to ward off at the same time. Prevent them and the person also stands a much greater chance of recovery. Heart disease and diabetes and lifestyle caused cancers are bigger issues for the nations.
