yeah, that’s another good one. I have looked into it but haven’t made it yet. I do occasionally climb the hill at Silvermine when there is snow on it. That’s fun also.

The frozen Niagara got me thinking. As a kid we'd have lakes, ponds, creeks and even small rivers freeze over long enough to get a good clean distance skate on. Surely there's some Upstate locales with their version of Apetor just cruisin along some frozen river on clean ice, chuggin vodka and Utica Club/Genny Cream, shirtless in the polar vortex and sea of grey; where's that at?

Not really the shirtless Upstater per se, but the frozen river of good ice, ya know?

I'm sure it's there but as conditions make it as rare as knee deep powder in Upstate. Maybe a mile ling ditch through the muck farms of the Finger Lakes would be clear of snow and cold at the same time.
A few people feel the rain. Most people just get wet.

I can attest that knee deep powder can easily exist in the Upstate. See HV circa 2017, but you’re right, the lack of snow and freezing temps is probably a hard to find condition.

Someone should get Candide over to that iced up Niagara Falls and make a mooovie. Conditions look sorta comparable to a thaw/refreeze of Ovation at the big K.

Canal hockey took place last weekend in Bushnell's Basin when I drove through. No pics. Looked like a blast.

Hey are you guys following along with the detachable pole strap thread? Lots of talk about Vermont chute skiing and I feel like some of the expertise in this thread could help.

Also, the thread is over the top HOF worthy amazing. You do not want to miss it.

It’ll take you an hour to catch all the way up though...

You have to link threads that aren't in the real forum. It's too much work to look.

That sounds awesome. I'm picturing natural barriers with the canal walls acting like boards? Or is it more of a cage match played inside the frozen locks?

There's really no need to wade through that whole thread. HFS. Now I know why I stay here in the TRG PR. This post on the first page of the thread sums it up nicely.

That's hilarious. It's like Epic Ski and the ECRC got all mixed up in one.

BTW, I see TRG did a piece on Magic Mtn, Timberridge, are you in there anywhere or were you out on the Shuttle Bus when they came through?

I couldn't get close. The TGR security detail there was tighter than a Madonna concert.

Can they just speed that up and put it into a .gif?

Could be part of the boundary discussion though. Have you been touched by a glacier?

You might be part of the Upstate.

Like a Virgin Madonna or converting to Kaballah Modonna?

As far south as the ski area known as Mad River, Ohio too. Hence the confusion.

I first heard about Drumlins when I saw the Cult on their Love tour with the Divynals opening at Drumlins country club in Syracuse. Definitely upstate and definitely an odd place for such a show. We did get to skate a bit in the parking lot with Billy Duffy before the show so that was cool.

Well, that brings Long Island back into the conversation.

    And Ohio.

Speaking of drumlins, I’m kinda partial to the glacial grooves on Kelly’s Island in Lake Erie
