Looks like some operators have a lot of work ahead of them on that road. I’ve ran a cat to clear avy debris before and it’s like pushing man made snow. Crazy how it sets up.
Depending on depth of those slides crossing the roads loaders will help. I’ve seen D6+ size dozers also do it but they will destroy the road surface worse then snowcat tracks.
Whenever it opens conditions should be fun. Jealous of those that get it. Office life M-F 9-5 can only have me wishing.
2nd pic from our twitter site is fucking rad!! The other 3 snags are impressive.

Yikes how about the folks spending the last few days in their vehicles at the Pdog.
Those idiots are going to have one huge ticket and probably won’t be skiing either.
UDOT pic of the truck imprint is impressive. Hopefully they clear it with the D6+ mentioned earlier. Rough up the crappy new pavement out down a few years ago and improve traction when it snows. I’m guessing they might get some pretty good results from the heli, but 24 hours to sit and a cold night might glue some stuff in place. Who thinks Coalpit hits the road?

Coup, to bad my computer at home crapped out a little while back because I have some photos and low res vid from back in mid-March of 2005 or 2006 on it of when we heli bombed Coalpit. Jimmy might remember the date/year better than me since I obviously can't check the image datesAnyway, we'd already had a BIG season and the snowpack was PHAAAAAT .... one of those 200" base years. It was either a Wednesday or Thursday and just raging at Alta; some of the most memorable High Boy, Rus 4, etc runs ever. We tried to open the road at the end of the day to get folks out of the canyon. That lasted not even an hour. A natural came down and swept a van load of canyon emps off the road. They were all ok; just shaken up. Obviously, we immediately closed the road and turned everyone else back around to fend for bed space. I remember Lynx had to sleep on the GMD bar floor.
I (un)luckily was ahead of the slide and made it down. The next morning dawned blue. Of course cars were in line at Gate B by 7-7:15 waiting to get up canyon; that was "early" back then.
Canyon didn't open till noon. I was on the road basically right at the Vault. Heli comes flying over obviously headed towards the Headwall. A few minutes later it looks like the Colorado River during spring snowmelt coming out of Coalpit only the debris wasn't even touching/flowing down the portion of it you can see from the road. It was literally launching out of the upper section and not landing until where the summer trail up to Pentapitch is. That went on for what seemed like 4-5 minutes. I saw whole, old growth pines getting shot out of there like toothpicks. It's easily one of the most impressive things I've ever seen. When we finally got up to the ski area, it was fairly tracked out (but still decent skiing) and nobody was around. They were all digging out their cars. I went back at sunset that night and snapped some photos from the road of the Coalpit debris. It probably came within about 100 yds or so of the road and looked to easily be 25ish feet deep in the runout zone. I remember the debris pile being there well into July of that summer.
Long story (I know) to a quick question. MHO: We currently just don't have the pack depth to facilitate a road hitting event. However, that being said, obviously the path got cleared out in March of that year ..... so, maybe?? One thing I can say for certain, is if it does, it will be one Helluva show!!

Luckily there aren't too many road crossing paths in LCC:

I remember the day well. My first day ever on spatulas . Center punched highboy right before openings. Instantly hooked on reverse camber. Lots of big slides that year. Perlas had a 20’ crown and east castle almost made the bottom of old supreme. And yeah it was much easier dealing with “crowds” then.

Coalpit headwall running past Pentapitch and Coalpit slide paths 1-4 are different places.
Coalpit 1-4 are the most likely N facing paths to hit the road.
They share a common runout just below where folks park to climb the icicle.
#4 is an awesome exit for Bells.
Just don't tell Andy...
btw: Today did not suck to be a troller in the LCC.
Time spent skiing cannot be deducted from one's life.
Can't imagine Coalpit proper ever making it to the road, even with the biggest starting zone of any slide path on that side of the canyon. The gully is super long and deep and once it spills out past Pentapitch it's a pretty long schwack to get to the trail. That being said, if it's motivated to go big and clear a path I can't say I have any complaints about making the exit any less miserable.
The 4 Coalpit couloirs definitely have a better shot at it if they decide to cooperate. The lower part of the path is pretty buffed out even with really low snow and the brushy section is not that long. Jumping or filling the creek seems like a taller ordeal.
I'm hearing reports of Lisa Falls going to D5 and moving some rather large rocks on the road? All the choss that was loosened up a few years ago probably didn't need much of a push to get moving again.

In my years of playing in LCC, I only remember one slide path hitting the road from lookers right going up.My guess 83-84?
I believe that was coalpit 4. I’ve seen photos dated from around then

When that thing is in, it looks like a beautifully, aesthetic and fun line. Always wanted to ski it as well as some of the higher South facing chutes. Getting sluffed out of the last few hundred feet of the Y with DTM about 15-16 years ago forever changed my mind where those plans/desires are concerned.
