Backside runs were amazing but lines were long-ish...still shorter than Alpy yesterday. [emoji6]

Dweebus was a stunningly pleasant surprise this morning. Felt like Tahoe.... cold, dry snow, sun. Super fun.

No one works anymore. Or, everyone is "multi-tasking" while waiting to load up.

ETA: I have also been known to do a bit of work while sitting in the vehicle at the ski hill parking lot, so not judging....

SAR called to a snowmobile avalanche from Salmon La Sac area. Seems likely it will add to the toll of a rough week+ in the mountains.

So, if it wasn’t clear...Stevens was a four flake day on the Buster scale. They never opened Double Diamond/Souther Cross yesterday. When it finally opened, it was crazy deep and almost Utah quality snow. Lots of face shots of cold smoke Pow. There was still lots of stashes at 3 pm when we finally called it. From 1 pm on, most lifts were ski on...people got the backside Pow and then left...and left lots of Pow for this of us who skied until our legs were gassed. Probably my best day of the year so far.

Shit, yeah one didn’t make it:

“Two snow bike riders were caught and buried by a very large avalanche in the mountains west of Salmon la Sac Sno-Park along Cle Elum Lake. One snow biker was partially buried and was able to dig himself out. The other rider is fully buried and hasn’t been recovered. Search and rescue operations are ongoing. The avalanche occurred on a north aspect at 4400 ft in the Knox Creek drainage.”

I've never even heard of snow biking. Is this a mechanized sport?

Basically a snow mobile downsized to dirt bike size. Think dirt bike vs. quad, but snow versions.

First run down Gemini was "best of season" quality, second run almost as good under SC, third run the line was as pictured . . . still a great day.

NWAC and NWS aren't seeing anything like that.

Be interesting to see the NWS afternoon run and discussion in a little while.

12 hour intervals I believe. It wouldn't surprise if the forecast discussion comes out later than usual while they plow through it.
