Incredibly sad to hear about the Square Top fatality. Glad to hear you're OK, D-Roc.

Skied Brighton 2-4 yesterday and the leftovers were outstanding. Found a few landings that were just stupid deep.

Reading through the list of slides reported to UAC yesterday it's amazing there was only one fatality.

Scary shit! Glad to hear you’re ok D-Roc. Yesterday was a good day but not worth dying over.

I poked around in west Scottie’s. Things seemed pretty stable there, great tree skiing, deep trail breaking.

    Hey Everyone,

I want to say thank you for the support and positive vibes, its been a weird mix of emotion over the last 24 hrs. Thank you for not passing judgement and offering support. I am extremely lucky and thankful for all involved. I am going to be recalling the events and talking with UAC to give them an accurate depiction of the day. Aside from a battered / torqued up left knee (able to walk around) - I am fine. I just got back from my partners house and he is doing well all things considered.

Once i have had a chance to put everything together I will happily put together a trip report and what have you. Also, if you care to discuss with me one on one, please DM me and I can give you my number and will openly discuss. For those that know me, I am very experienced and a very active backcountry traveler, been doing this a while despite only being 35, but sometimes the coin flips the other way and when that happens, I feel its important to share and not lose the lesson. I will be open about this experience.

This is one of those hard lessons

Droc, really glad you're alright, and thanks for the openness. It's great to have such a great community that is willing to share lessons learned, as it will make all of us better. Glad it wasn't an even harder lesson. Prayers to the family of the squaretop slide.

Sorry for the late reply, but thanks everyone for the well wishes after my crash last week. I took it easy, as I def had at least a mild concussion, with headaches almost every day, and hope to be back on skis soon. Bought a new Movement 3Tech Alpi for touring(thanks to mbillies review on skimoco). After seeing my helmet from last week, I don't think I'll ever ski with my BD Vapor again.

I did a quick back-read and didn't see this posted. But please forgive me if it's a repost. Two cars went off the road in BCC...

Like everyone else glad to hear you came out on top, D-Roc! And kudos for owning your mistake, learning from it and being willing to share it so that others can also learn from it.
Looking forward to sharing turns with ya in the future

Settled out and got super surfy and fun overnight, but still skied pretty deep. Great day on backside and elsewhere.

Crazy how fast it warmed up though. Crusted on anything without shade after this PM?

Looking across the Canyon from Baldy there are plenty of tracks, even with the sketchy snowpack. Good decision making, good luck, combination of both...glad all those folks stayed safe. Prayers for the family of the skier who perished at Square Top.

Snowbird Mountain Guides is not sending anyone out into the backcountry until things stabilize. I was originally booked with them for Saturday. On Friday we pushed it to Monday. Today they cancelled, wouldn’t consider moving to Tuesday. From their perspective the risk-reward equation just isn’t right, just not worth the risk right now. Perhaps they are more conservative than others, but I can live with that.

Snowbird seems to be pretty conservative inbounds as well. Despite control work Road to Provo didn’t open today. The Bookends Traverse wasn’t open past Bookmark. Control work further out got several slides to run, pretty far. Near the top of Richie’s a pretty big section pulled out, looks like a pretty big crown.

    Stay safe out there....

I need to go to Utah.
    Utah?
Yeah, Utah. It's wedged in between Wyoming and Nevada. You've seen pictures of it, right?

So after 15 years we finally made it to Utah.....

Thanks BCSAR and POWMOW Ski Patrol for rescues

Terrain off the High Baldy Traverse was still skiing soft at 3:30, so hopefully not.

D-Roc, glad you're still with us.
Vibes to the friends and family of the Squaretop fatality.

Positive Covid test results yesterday morning.
temperature 98.2 before breakfast, 100.1 currently.
Was very stoked to be asymptomatic thus far..
We'll see how it unfolds over the next few days.

Enjoy the pow. Looks like another round coming later in the week.

D-Roc sure glad you are ok. Likely take a while to fully come to terms with it.

Damn read the report, that must have been one scary ride. It was a big one. Glad you both ended sunny side up.

    They opened it!
South facing is the safest aspect of the compass, er I mean rose right now.
    Usually is around here.
No old snow; no pwl on 95% of that terrain.
Why there's moguls over there, folks choosing wisely on exposure...
