and as per usual, MNIAW nailed it.

bunny, about now shouldn't you be going on about how there's no good skiing in the NE anyway?

No one in the history of this virus has ever been infected that way, and a gas stop is even safer--it's close contact that is the problem (which, per the CDC, is being within six feet of someone else in an enclosed space for more than a minute or two--so really very easy to safely travel to VT without risking catching something). I'm not at all worried about being infected while on the hill (outside it is very difficult to catch it, unless you're really close to someone for an extended period), and when I'm not on the hill I'm by myself (or with family) inside. That was my point--if people act the way they are hopefully acting anyway when they are at home this should be fine. I realize that it's too much to expect, for some reason, but the simple fact of people coming in from out of state to ski doesn't in itself mean there's transmission risk.

I'm not altering what I'm doing regardless of location, and I'll be damned if I'm going to catch this thing (especially when I'm hoping to be vaccinated before much longer).
You might be able to stay in your bubble, but what happens if your car breaks down, hit black ice and smack a tree, come upon another accident, slip on ice walking to the lift, have a heart attack, etc.? Sure you might be Covid free but all the people you encounter in the unforeseen problems might have Covid and then you possibly become the spreader, this is one reason why the CDC is recommending to avoid travel.

You don't know shit about me. But let's fix that after this pandemic gets squashed. Come up to Magic on a pow day. We'll show you the best spots and buy you a beer afterward. Tell you some stories (lies). Then you can judge if I'm a dick or not...and vice versa.

You can head up, just stay out of the way of groomers (they'll groom the second it hits the ground). If it does actually snow I'll probably be heading up mid afternoon for a couple laps.

Also, FYI, their snow report today did say they'll open at 7AM on Sunday if they get more than 6" tomorrow...7AM is insane, is it even light out then?

I tried this many years ago figuring he couldn't be that big of a dickhead, turns out I was dead wrong...glad I saved my $.

I have it on good authority that Smuggs plans to enforce current guidelines for out of state guests and is prepared to turn away people who can not prove they have quarantined. I'll believe it when I see it.

Doesn't Chu Chu have lights? Show some balls, open at 6am!

Bunz and the departed JD are the only two "skiers" in 'merica that are happy the season is off to a slow start, sad to live like that.

I am keeping busy working so not thinking about skiing so much. Still not as bad as '92.

Snow on the hill down to base of Steins at sunset.

So sorry to hear this. This damn virus is so arbitrary. Some people just shake it off, and some really struggle. I’m hoping for a good outcome for you and your family.

For many skiing is not only sport but a social event. The social part is the problem.

Yup. You think all of those people who drive four to five hours and essentially only ski on Saturday in Vermont are in it for the skiing?

Impressive. Cabanas! Somebody has thought this out. Pretty cool, compared to, good luck with lunch in your car.

bush has some bleak looking cabanas as well. Based on the sloppy nailing pattern I think Timberr was the GC on this build.

I am having lunch at home, like every other year.

We moved up here 20 years ago after owning a North Lynx.... think #9....

Word is they were put up quick to beat a 1970s tax loophole.....

Oddly there are no units 1-7, did they fall over?! Ok

    good on them.

started skiing there last season. they were the first to close. i'd originally planned to do MRG on march 12 but overslept. plan morphed into nite skiing, arrived at BE just before 3pm to learn that they were closing at 4pm, and for the season. en route to my plan C destination jiminy i heard the announcement on the radio that the NBA was shutting down and like that covid had become real in a new way.

i later read their statement about closing - to protect their staff, their customers and the people living in the region. had much respect for that decision especially in light of other areas going the denial route (not just jiminy)
and just like that the only NE lifts running were in NH.

cool cabana idea but winter tailgating, while not as fun as the in spring, is fine so long as it's not a polar vortex.

and yes VTfree...those do look bleak! mildly upscale ice fishing huts at best.

We had #20. North lynx was middle earth, right? My parents have the middle earth sign. Use it to cover the firewood in the yard.

How do you prove if you home quarantined to someone at Smuggs? By signing a waiver? read: meaningless. All these half and symbolic measures are making shit so ineffective and complicated. I just deleted a long rant but IMO- borders should be open, they should fully close all indoor services, people should wear fucking masks, and its ski and ski only. But good luck on any of that happening.

    ^^ car-banas, baby!

cabanas seem like a nice idea in concept but then it's one more set of places an 'essential' worker must disinfect daily. and those who use them might wonder how clean they are.

for those of us really into the *skiing* the required sacrifices are just a 'welcome to my world' but again, ski areas don't pay the bills with that demographic.

close the bar, beers in the car.
