Too many doors, it's not a shooting brake. Cool car though.

This was my old car (close to a wagon); fantastic all around. Shouldn’t have sold it but you live and learn!

So, with 145K on her '13 SQ5, which now has two motor mounts that need to be replaced and other wear items showing up and a shitload of driving to do at least until the pandemic gets gone, the wife is gonna get a new ride.

The two she's gonna go drive in the next couple days are the A6 Allroad and the MB E 450. She's keeping the SQ5 in the mix but a wagon makes sense. What do the wagon devotees here say about the one vs. the other? I guess if I'd read this thread I'd know already. Mea culpa.

I would rather have the Audi, but either should be a great car.
Never in U.S. history has the public chosen leadership this malevolent. The moral clarity of their decision is crystalline, particularly knowing how Trump will regard his slim margin as a “mandate” to do his worst. We’ve learned something about America that we didn’t know, or perhaps didn’t believe, and it’ll forever color our individual judgments of who and what we are.

I'd look for one of the increasingly rare Jag Sportbrake. I just can't seem to be excited by Audis anymore, don't know why but they just don't do it for me.

Which yr E 540? The new one is the all terrain with air suspension right?

Edit to add: I was thinking of the 2021 model.

I drove and considered the 2020 MB E450 wagon. It was top two for me. It's a nice car.

Yeah '21 most likely. But she has a solid reason: She didn't like this year. I think the '20 450 also has the air suspension? Not sure.

I have an '04 allroad, and the air suspension on that has been a bit of an adventure. Hopefully those systems are more reliable these days.

What'd you end up buying? I guess I'd know if I had read the thread but hey.

All 2020 E450 wagons have standard rear air suspension. 2021 models have air suspension at all four corners. Ended up with a Lexus GX. Devil you know.

Car and Driver did 40,000 miles in a 2019 E450 wagon which is the same car as the 2020. No problems and they loved it.

    Clearly.

Iceman, both are very good cars from everything I've read and drove. (Have 2020 MB wheel time and 2020 A6 as well, but not A6 Allroad) My non-scientific rec is the Audi as they've been making very solid cars lately, mine has been a rock, the cockpit is better than the Merc, and I think they drive more more "German" (sporty road feel) than the Mercs. I don't think you'll go wrong with either one though.

Iceman, for the fuck of it, why not test drive one of the Volvo wagons too? FWIW, a friend has the MB and has had good luck with it.

Loving mine! In spite of the horror stories it's been a great car so far. Limited as to what I can add to it for now by a warranty but that's not a bad thing.

I don't know Audis much but Man, this seems like a solid deal to me. Nice car.

    Horror stories? Warranty?

For that age Subaru I'm not understanding. Even dealerships offer tuning packages for that car. How much is insurance on that thing for ya?
