Based on some of his posts I'm pretty sure tgapp is totally down with Via in the right context. Though there was some other fancy instant coffee he linked to that I assume is better.

via is GREAT. no seriously. like idk how they did it, but it's goddamn great instant coffee. i have no shit to talk on via, and if you have flavors to recommend, i'm all fucking ears.

sure, i have some snobby microroastery brand i prefer more, but in a pinch, i am more than stoked on via. fucking killer shit. best product starbuck's has made, and it's at every grocery store between here and jackson.

but also if any mag is keen i have two invites to my favorite frozen coffee concentrate (this is dumb but it's in a closed beta test right now so you need an invite to join). it tastes as good as real brewed coffee and it is just easy as shit. i drink it probably 2 times a week when i dawn patrol (summer and winter): https://cometeer.com/

it's fucking incredible, really well done product, and it works in keurigs (and is totally recyclable) and is like $2/pod. cheaper than starbucks and way more convenient (and way higher quality). only downside is it needs to stay frozen.

Concur that Via is Starbucks best product. If they just served that in all their stores it’d be an improvement. I drank it for two weeks when I was a wannabe-van-lifer in Iceland and I didn’t mind too much.

It’s also useful as a “dip” when you want to stay alert when road tripping.

I'm not eating the stuff, but camping with SBUX instant always makes me wonder why they don't just serve that instead, too. I'm not sure how different it is from straight Via, but their mocha packets are better than both their coffee and their cocoa. (Admitted cocoa snob.)

It's weird how many taste-related things I'm agreeing with in this thread--I would expect individual tastes to vary enough to cover a lot of differences.

Likely cost of materials is the driver. They could add a Via pickup only storefront and that would work well.

Perhaps I should expand my mind. I have such venom for SB that I just assumed their instant would be even worse than their drip.

Via isnt great coffee by anymeans... but when on a backpacking trip in the early morning overlooking a beautiful alpine lake it might be the best cup of joe you've had in months. Id rather have via than the kuerig pods my work supplies for free.

I use it in shakes, and in baking as well.

You mean those large packages to make mocha lattes? I admit those are tasty, but way too much sugar for me to consume on a regular basis.

I’m partial to Pike Place via packs with one half of an International French Vanilla creamer.

Honestly, my post was a joke. However I do use the Via packets for camping as they are very lightweight and compact vs. a pour over or aeropress system.

My sarcasm meter caught that. Hence my flippant reply. At least now I know Starbucks isn’t a complete waste of space.

It's largely a comment on how bad their drip is that the worst case/lighter than some equipment product is better. Still kind of surprising.

Pro tip: give your cold brew a shake

I was able to coax the citrusy sweetness out of tgapp’s sidamo shantawene organic washed processed beans with a long, slow extraction. The result is extremely light and delicate, more like iced tea than coffee.

fuck yeah! good, high-grown ethiopian/burundi coffees can be really tea-like in their characteristic. delicate is a good word for them. i just lack the palate i think...

new set of coffees are out to 6 more mags, lmk if i forgot you - you should see 'em by friday unless you're in canuckistan. some cool shit went out today.

This thread is mostly out of my league but I do enjoy their nitro cold brew more than I’d like to admit.

You may be in a bit of a coffee wasteland so it is all relative. My advice is to befriend tgapp - you are almost neighbors - and post-Covid have him lead you down the rabbit hole.
