My youngest daughter (14) and her friend have been co-babysitting all week for a family that we only know through mutual friends. So today the 7 year old picks up a fucking STEAK KNIFE and starts chasing my daughter and her friend, making stabbing motions. Scared the shit out of them. Finally they managed to get the knife away from the kid. They tell the dad (who is working at home in the basement) and he says, "What did you do to set him off?"

WTF?! Annoyed doesn't begin to cover it. Still deciding if it's worth a confrontation. Obviously my daughter and her friend are not going to babysit there anymore, they quit. The more I think about it, the more it freaks me out. Seven years old and you don't know not to play with knives? That's bullshit. My daughter says these parents never discipline these kids at all and they are totally out of control. I am fuming thinking about what could have happened if that psycho kid had got the knife into one of the girls. And I also feel I let my guard down by not screening these people before letting my kid babysit there. That won't happen again. /rant

If the kid is Black you can probably have him arrested, just tell them there's a large angry armed black male.
Otherwise hope there aren't any unlocked guns in the house.
I feel sorry for kids like that--obviously has never heard the word no. He's in for a rude awakening some day.

Getting written up at work for insubordination after telling a senior director the reason I was turning down the job offer was, and I quote "because you Mr Senior Director do not have enough courage to be my boss" really grinds my gears and makes me question the societal contract, which I never signed, that says I'm not supposed to beat the fuck outta a condescending senior director who is such snowflake they cant handle negative feedback about themselves. I would go to HR but too fucking mad about it so focused my negative energy on finding another job and first email landed me an interview.

    FUCK YOU MR SENIOR DIRECTOR!

My mantra about a year ago, constantly reverberating in my head after a similar experience: "FUCK YOU MOTHERFUCKERS". Worked out pretty well for me. Hope it works for you too.

oh buddy ive been saying that about this place since I started there lol! If management is ethically challenged as measured by my sickly twisted ethics measuring stick than you better believe the shit really stinks in the executive washroom!

The guy we bought this house from is an incompetent piece of shit. The house is nice, and sound. But everything this guy touched, he fucked it up. Now it’s my problem.

It’s a bracket to mount this lamp. Kind of hotel style; instead of wiring directly to the lamp, the cord plugs in at the outlet below.
    1. Bracket clicked wrong, so cord just kind of stuck under the rim.
    2. Bracket clicked wrong, so only 2 of three mounting bolts attached.
    3. One screw in stud, no drywall anchors used. So the whole thing would rotate on the wall if adjusted the “wrong” way.
It’s so shitty it feels more like sabotage.

we have a couple of those. Pieces of crap, but I can read with them a lot better than with the gorgeous Tiffany lamb knock offs my wife made.

I found a bunch of shitty work done by the prior owner on our last house. None quite as sloppy as that though.

The finest example of shitty DIY work at our place was discovered when I replaced a ceiling fan on a vaulted (angled) ceiling. The old fan had a U shaped bracket to attach to the ceiling plate - the idea being that you mount the fan's U bracket first, then hang the fan assembly on the U bracket to complete the wiring, then slide the decorative cover up over the whole thing. The U bracket had a big sticker on the side, advising installer to face the opening of the U upward if on an angled ceiling. Moronic former owner mounted the U facing downward. One good bump and the old fan would've been hanging from the ceiling solely by its wiring...

One of my neighbors is running their AC. I didn't realize there was a house in Truckee with AC, although the way things are going there will be more, but at the moment, even on our hottest days you have to be some special kind of snow flake to need AC here.

Chup--don't talk to me about lousy DIY work. How about the polarity was backwards on every outlet in the house. Or the ceiling paneling was short redwood boards between exposed 4x roof rafter and supported on ledger strips, except the redwood was cut too short and ceiling boards were constantly falling down. Miraculously, no one was ever hit on the head, and a board never landed on anything breakable. Some of those boards had 25 feet to get up speed. When we bought it, to get into the house you either climbed an exposed stairs to the corner of the large deck diagonally across from the front door, or you climbed an exposed stairs that was covered in ice from the roof with 10 ft icicles hanging over your head. Lots of fun in the winter. The deck beams--2x8 spanning 17ft--were supported at the house end by pocket holes cut into the T111 siding--not by any framing. All that and plenty more has been fixed.

Old Goat, I know several tahoe locals getting or seriously considering AC despite the moderate climate up here. The reason is simple: wildfire smoke screws up the usual routine of opening all windows at night to cool off the house.

But maybe you live in a special zone that magically avoids the smoke

Nope, but my house stays tolerable with the windows closed. Not ideal, but the last thing California, and the world, need is more people running AC. Which in the long run means more wildfires and hotter temperature so more AC and more and more. Sorry, but I don't buy it that anyone needs AC here.
