I saw a nephrologist today (I have a long history of nocturnal polyuria, there's a thread in GC about it). They did a pre-visit blood draw on me last week and my creatinine was 2.8. Dude ignored my long medical history of normal creatinine levels, higher-than-average muscle mass, and my personal report that I still had DOMS from lifting the day before the blood draw (the latter two are well known to raise creatinine, no one told me not to exercise the day before) and was freaking out that I had acute renal failure. Ordered more blood work and an ultrasound of my kidneys on the spot, both of which to turned out to be (shockingly) totally normal.

Unless the doc had access to medical records documenting repeated elevated creatinines with normal renal function repeating the lab work was the right thing to do. Could have held off on the US until the lab work was back.

Unless the doc had access to medical records documenting repeated elevated creatinines with normal renal function repeating the lab work was the right thing to do. Could have held off on the US until the lab work was back.

He has access to the entirety of my medical records going back over a decade, including half a dozen previous creatinine measurements (all normal, and the most recent measurement was only 4 weeks ago!). I'm not really upset about the extra blood draw, or even the US (though ask me again when I get the bill). Mostly I'm pissed that he immiedately jumped to "This young and seemingly healthy guy has acute renal failure! All hands on deck! Here's some brochures about dialysis and kidney transplantation to read while I order tests!" (yes, he actually gave me those brochures) instead of "Hmmm, this result is concerning but not consistent with your previous results. Let's redo it to confirm."

Also, the only reason I know everything was normal was because I logged into IHC's excellent online records system and checked them myself. Had I not done that I'd be going to bed tonight freaking out that my kidneys are failing and my life as I know it may be over.

These scumbags; had to go to the Orange box store Sunday afternoon for a couple of unobtainable in my town plumbing fittings. Saw them at the register when I went in. Her mask blow her snout, husband? without and kid running around without.
Walking out I saw all that shit hit the ground from her papoose pack and start blowing everywhere. Zero [0] attempt to pick anything up except .............. the fucking bag of chips in front of the right wheel. She snatched that up and stuffed a handful in her snout before getting in the cab.
How do people live like this???

Not that I disagree with your premise, but that’s half the sampling I see daily here in ATL, no different than any other major city that draws college grads to tourists to job and industry chasers from all over - same as SEA.

During peak lockdown I wanted to personally scream at the flood of New York plated Uber drivers that flooded the metro when their own city was overrun with COVID - go the fuck back to where you came from disease-freaks!

Toss in the neat bonus of every swinging dick from the Northeast, Midwest and Midsouth passing through the state to their vacations and it’s just a big ol Petri dish. Saturdays are the days to avoid the highway system at all costs. The good news is you can easily spot who to a avoid/judge on the interstate by their plates. For example, on the route from ATL to HHI, the average speed on I-16 is 90-95mph. I’ll bet you dollars to donuts the asshat in the left lane doing 65 is from Cincinnati with no less than 15 OH-based stickers on the back and 1 Salt Life decal.
