I got a call from a maggot friend about 12 days ago who has been heading up a nationwide county by county count of cases for Johns Hopkins that is used for graphics like this risk assessment map in the NYT. He's extremely smart and nerdtastic for things like this. Not all the footnotes came through but red/brown indicates counties with the most underlying conditions for covid kill rates. I think your misunderstanding asymptomatic vs not requiring hospitalization. ~60% were asymptomatic, about 1% required hospitalization (7), about .15% died (1). A navy ship is not really representative of the general population at all.

The confounding part for the ship is the 1500 sailors who tested positive in May.

The ships should provide significant insight into susceptibility. Particularly when linked with choir practice.

COVID deaths are under, due to lack of testing, delay on long term care home reporting and Republican governors (not all) standing on the stats people to fudge the data. See the recent firing of the Florida GIS manager for being unwilling to change data.

We'll likely never get good data in the US other than state-level pockets.

But it's not the summer travel season yet. I have a feeling it's going to be difficult to extend the closure into summer. Could just be wishful thinking on my part, because I plan to travel to B.C. as soon as I'm able.

I used the worst case as was unclear whether the 7 hospitalizations referred to the 678 positive or the later number for 1156 and 7 was the total ever hospitalized ? ( never saw the 1500 number). But the death rate based on 1156 positives was only 0.09%. Again not a representative number.

"The ships should provide significant insight into susceptibility."--- Not sure about that as if you have ever toured a naval ship or aircraft carrier, not a lot of difference density wise, you would think that would be the worst case possible. Close sleeping arrangements, close working and eating even hallways are pretty tight. SDing would be impossible.

New York City people are actually pretty healthy, relative to the rest of the country. They walk a lot. And that will increase as more avoid public transit.
