It then suggests that this could be due to the widespread adoption of alcohol hand sanitizers used in health care settings (which has dramatically decreased the incidence of bacterial infections being spread between patients overall -but this study is looking at one particular type of hospital acquired infection that hasn’t seen the expected decrease in incidence despite widespread use of alcohol based hand sanitizers)

It also suggests that instead of this resistance being caused by hand sanitizer it could be a mutation in the bacteria that confers greater acid tolerance “ leading to improved survival during passage through the gastrointestinal tract. Secondary phenotypes such as alcohol tolerance are then coselected (passenger phenomenon) and, together with the primary phenotype, multiply the environmental hardiness of the pathogen.”

Interestingly it appears that a lot of the research into bacterial resistance to alcohol is, as you can imagine, driven by brewing, wine making, distilling industry.

But I withdraw any statements I made that imply bacteria can never become resistant to sanitization as these studies show adaptation to alcohol can happen.

Bleach is another story. And so are viruses.
The source of this study is Australian hospitals. Alcohol resistance is only natural on that continent given the inhabitants. I say study, but wait for repeatable observations in a more 'normal' environment

Bet we don't have any alcohol resistant bacteria here in Utah.

I’m doing a deep dive study tonight using my personal gut biome and a random selection of beverages of varying alcohol concentration. Will report back later.

Apologies in advance for the forthcoming spelling and punctuation errors.

I don't know if it's funny or sad that I now go to the grocery store with a "wish list" and get pumped when they have what I want/need.

Finally found med. grain rice, fresh basil, crushed tomatoes, tortillas and smoked salmon. Came up empty on flour, bagels, peppermint tea, udon noodles and Cherry Garcia.

went to work today, they are now doing temp checks on weekends.

it's the freaking weekend ! you know who comes in weekends, those that have to, they do not usually work with or see anyone else; do the work they have to and leave. I know this from decades of experience

Our niece is a teacher and her husband does IT for a Socal school district. He works 9-5 from home while she watches their 2 kids, then he watches the kids on the weekend while she does a week's worth of online classes. They're working a lot harder than pre-Covid but it beats having both of them unemployed. And they're saving on the little one's daycare.

I've got fucking Vertigo. It's insanely trivial, I realize, but I'm going on two weeks and it's driving me fucking nuts (and depriving me of my sweet, sweet doobage).
Remind me. We'll send him a red cap and a Speedo.

I have had vertigo, it totally sucks, and yeah, for me, weed is not advised when the world is already a little unsteady. There are treatments that work, depending on the flavor of vertigo you have. Two weeks is a long time to be suffering.

    except it's not.

7 billion on the planet, 3 million infected; so 6 billion, 997 million are sheltering in place and have yet to be exposed ? I don't think so; will be interesting to see after another 6 months what was considered the actual chance of infection for the average person.

okay, off the soapbox; texas governor opens texas may 1 but says no haircuts until may 15th; looks like I am going to Arkansas this weekend.

The United Nations, for example, recognizes 251 countries and territories. 1) The United States, however, officially recognizes fewer than 200 nations. 2) Ultimately, the best answer is that there are 196 countries in the world.

Tracking the spread of the novel coronavirus

At least 207,669 people globally have died from COVID-19 and 3,001,088 have been infected by the novel coronavirus that causes it, following an outbreak that started in Wuhan, China, in early December. The World Health Organization referred to it as a pandemic on March 11, 2020.

    Active cases: 1,940,724 (64.70%)
    People recovered: 852,695 (28.40%)
    Deaths: 207,669 (6.90%)

Though the outbreak started in China, it has now reached 216 countries and territories. 175 of those have reported fatalities.

You’ve never had vertigo or you would know that’s quackery. Weed is devastating with vertigo. Headache, dizziness. Truly awful.
