ive made tables and such from them. I am going to likely use some for an accent wall in the basement so I can mount a dart board for the kids and not worry.

So, I just got this email:

    https://www4.tickets-center.com//m/new-york-city/2/

This proves that ticket sellers are evil, right? Although a nice mass kill off of Billy Joel fans would be ok in my book.

Eh, sorry, bad link. But, anyway, they're actually selling tickets to concerts starting June 6. Wtf?

Do don't wash before you handle the equipment?

Basic hygiene like changing condoms between ass and pussy might be the best thing that has come out of covid.

A week or 2 ago in the rat flu thread, someone posted a graphic of influenza diagnosis in the US, and it was essentially a straight line down in late March.

I think the widespread use of sanitizers will help to breed more resilient and virulent varieties of the common bacteria and viruses.

This is the main reason I've avoided them nearly all my life. I've had to use it a few times but very sparingly. I am all for attempting to let the body do it's thing if possible. Overused of antibiotics is part of the problem imho. Call your gp he does t even see you, sends in a script for antibiotics. Bad juju.

You guys are as smart as Trump if you think antibiotics and bleach are the same thing.

    He didn't say they were.

And yes, we are pushing some strong selective forces for resistance right now.

I never said anything about antibiotics, just about selective pressure by soaking everything in bleach, ISO or other sanitizing chemicals.

I was only talking about the hand shit. I've seen studies about so called "superbugs" admittedly far from an MD but it's worked for 49 years so.

Antibiotic resistant bacteria are a huge problem and the overuse of antibiotics is the culprit. And that problem just continues to get worse. A lazy doctor handing out antibiotic prescriptions by phone and/or entitled people demanding antibiotics for their minor ailments are all guilty = antibiotics lose their effectiveness the more you use and abuse them.

Overuse of sanitizers can potentially/theoretically lead to higher rates of childhood allergies, asthma, and auto-immune disease (later in life). This is due to the sanitizers being *too* effective at wiping out bacteria and viruses.

    These are separate problems.

(If someone wants to post about bacterial biofilm thickness and bleach resistance - that does not compare to antibiotic resistance)

Oddly, my wife has been big on hand sanitizer

I always said our kids need to eat dirt.

But the last month I’ve been squirting into my hands on a regular basis.
    Never did that before.

The 2018 study used for that article suggests that a specific bacteria (that has a history of spreading between hospital patients and infecting their digestive systems) has become more resistant to alcohol disinfectant over time.

It then suggests that this could be due to the widespread adoption of alcohol hand sanitizers used in health care settings (which has dramatically decreased the incidence of bacterial infections being spread between patients overall -but this study is looking at one particular type of hospital acquired infection that hasn’t seen the expected decrease in incidence despite widespread use of alcohol based hand sanitizers)

It also suggests that instead of this resistance being caused by hand sanitizer it could be a mutation in the bacteria that confers greater acid tolerance “ leading to improved survival during passage through the gastrointestinal tract. Secondary phenotypes such as alcohol tolerance are then coselected (passenger phenomenon) and, together with the primary phenotype, multiply the environmental hardiness of the pathogen.”

Interestingly it appears that a lot of the research into bacterial resistance to alcohol is, as you can imagine, driven by brewing, wine making, distilling industry.

But I withdraw any statements I made that imply bacteria can never become resistant to sanitization as these studies show adaptation to alcohol can happen.

Bleach is another story. And so are viruses.

^well said. I only went digging because I remember a colleague discussing this when the article came out but couldn't remember the details. In the practical world we are living in now this has little impact.
