Re hospital billing--$13,000 is a ridiculously low amount for treating a Covid 19 patient without a vent, 39,000 is ridiculously low for one on a vent, or for one off the vent, considering the amount of nursing and respiratory tech care involved. I suspect Medicare will have to come up with a modifier for the Covid. The hospital cannot bill for a diagnosis unless a physician records the diagnosis and the medical record documents the basis for the diagnosis. Hospital coders will sometimes ask the physician if such and such a diagnosis can be made to increase the allowable charge, but it's the physician who has to sign off on it, at the peril of their license and their freedom--docs do go to jail for medicare fraud and the feds are very alert to it. And the physician gets nothing more for upcoding the hospital diagnosis (as opposed to physician services billing practices where upcoding and unbundling are not rare, and still, if you're smart you don't fuck with medicare.)

My care for 10 days in the hospital, including part of the time in ICU, for a broken back, a bunch of busted ribs and an acetabular fracture was 100K, although that did include a fixed wing flight from Reno to Sacramento.

Ya know... I'm spent. Really. Just tapped out. You should have seen the videos on the local news of people protesting in Tri-cities. The things they say "it's just the flu," "this is deep state," "not that many people are getting sick if you're worried stay home but open everything up for the rest of us."

I watch and wonder who's right? My ideas on this pandemic are not theirs. Are they crazy or am I? I just can't anymore. Maybe we should just open it up and let the chips fall where they may.

Sounds like you’re about ready for the bliss of ignorance.

    Interesting 5 min read:

The chemical blob that changed humanity
    -Dr. John Ross

    https://www.thechronicleherald.ca/op...2AsOk.facebook

    Excerpt:

Unlike most other species, we are not obsessed by the fear of predators. Other species are fully occupied by the search for food and avoiding becoming food. Humans, instead, have time to obsess over our made-up beliefs, our fantasies. However, the different beliefs shared by distinct groups creates divisions in our naturally social species. Friction at belief system interfaces result in wars, expansion and contraction of group belief systems, trade barriers, sanctions, etc. That was life as we knew it before late December 2019.

Then along came the novel SARS-2-CoV. Ultra-basic inert chemical blob versus ultra-sophisticated humans. We all know what has happened in 4.5 months. It is attacking our fragile bodies AND our far more fragile belief systems. It has revealed leaders who prefer fantasies over science and the immutable laws of nature. The economy, revered as our god (fantasy, not nature) is the shared belief system at the root of almost everything. It, like the viral particle on the table top, is rapidly falling apart. It is revealing who the most important people are in our society. It is not the billionaires

In some parts it may be a little early but the timing looks to be pretty good for finding a nice little place to hole up for a bit.

Jesus fuck that is just stupid. We do everything possible to keep pathogen DNA out of our manufacturing lines. Our RanD lab has all the nasty stuff. No one is allowed from that lab into our manufacturing floor. Different air systems, scrubs and employees. Nothing is shared or goes between the two. Ever. I can't believe they intentionally had virus in the same space as the reagents for the tests.

well I was thinking of just taking a day ride. Getting out and clearing my head. You know what Winston Churchill said - "there's something about the outside of a horse that's good for the inside of a (wo)man"

It's a power / control wind in your hair thing. Like a guy on his Harley. Never ridden a horse myself but I can imagine.

I wish I could send my girlfriend with you. That's all see wants to do, go for a ride in the mountains. Unfortunately she will go to work tomorrow and record how many people died this weekend where she works.

I'm not making lite of your frustrations, everyone is getting a little or lot frustrated these days. I encourage you to count your blessings, and enjoy what you have. It's going to be OK, at least let's keep that hope alive.
