If that COVID-19 patient goes on a ventilator, you get $39,000; three times as much. Nobody can tell me, after 35 years in the world of medicine, that sometimes those kinds of things [have] impact on what we do.

It was my understanding that this thread is about the disease. Science, epidemiology, symptoms, etc etc. Economic ramifications of the disease are certainly real and serious. Perhaps you should start a thread about them.

And the sample (if you can call what she pulled out of her ass for the reporter a sample) that she gave a huge fucking range on 30-50% was people who were feeling sick enough to be tested for Coronavirus!

Not representing the general population and we have no reason to believe the numbers before we get into the problems with the test itself.

Then you pop up a model based prediction about how many might have been infected under a bunch of preconditions that don't exist?

Do you read your links before you post? Seriously dude, you can do better. Think critically.
Actually I didn’t read those links. Just throwing logs on the fire.

But I did read the prior link of mass general hospital testing in Chelsea. It was small sample size but interesting and perhaps giving hope that we can live a somewhat normal life someday.

Nah, I'm in the camp that the economic damage from this will kill far more than the virus. Sad.

Having been involved in one form of medicine, and knowing on a personal and professional level a lot of people on the human side, I would say the vast majority of them do what is most right, not what is most profitable.

I agree it is a constitutional right for Americans to be assholes...its just too bad that so many take the opportunity...

I don't disagree with you but this thread was about the virus itself.

We are probably about to start the second wave thanks to Florida and a few other states.
I think of it as still the first wave, second will be after things have calmed down and we get a few months out and our guard is down. Does this thing act like the 1918 flu and that second wave is the real doozy?

Geez. In a thread about the virus, we aren't allowed to talk about the politics of the virus, or the economic impacts of virus, or post about us recreating outside during the virus....

Of course you're allowed. But when the talk veers to the Austrian School and the recession of 1920 and Hoover's policies it's just barely possible that we may have gone a bit too far afield. Just the fact that RJ showed up is enough to tell you things are off track.

Probably not. Corona viruses don't tend to recombine like influenza...fortunately. True second waves are likely to be smaller since there will be a larger portion of the population immune to it (if immunity lasts.)

...and yeah, Florida and company are not a true second wave, more like the back wash of a tsunami. The real second wave is likely next fall.

It might be more complicated than just mutation rate ...

    https://journals.plos.org/plosone/ar...l.pone.0060343

    - virus transmissibility
    - behavioral changes
    - population heterogeneity
    - virus mutation (not an issue, as you mentioned)
    - waning immunity (you mentioned)

^This is where I’m at on the subject.

Most people in here are asking questions, posting facts, observations, jokes, articles, etc.

The polyass crew always figures out a way to argue, bait, troll.
    All the time, every time.
What weird chemical thing in their brain causes that, I haven’t figured out yet.

Clearly politics and economy are tied to this, and much to Dib’s chagrin I certainly don’t condone this thread being moved to polyass.

So if the people who know they need to rein it in could do so, and take the arguments and insults to the thread in poly started just for you, that would be great.
