Use both! Sanitizer when you can't use soap. Local distilleries are making hand sanitizer. That's kinda cool.
My family is from Kailua and they are reporting the same thing - full beaches. Then again my cousins may be part of the problem. I’m scared for the island with only 50 ICU beds and a lack of more direct mandates. I have elderly family there too and they won’t make it through this if it spreads, which is a foregone conclusion. Stay well and have a drink at Creekside if it’s still open.

Just to circle back around to the tomatoes for a second, I made some chicken parm the other day from a recipe (normally I'd just make it without a recipe but my wife saw this one and pointed it out so I did it) and the tomatoes were canned italian cherry tomatoes. I don't think I even really knew they were a thing. Pretty cool ingredient, super tasty. You mash up some of the tomatoes with a fork as you make the sauce and leave the rest whole, I mashed about half of them I guess but you could do whatever. Really bright strong tomato flavor, I'll use them again. the ones I used were Cirio:
Back to the virus, Bret Stephens is a very smart guy who I often disagree with. Today he has basically encapsulated my thinking (as it stands at the moment, at least). Worthwhile piece imo: https://www.nytimes.com/2020/03/20/o...irus-data.html
Re that NYT articles by Stephens, while thoughtful, it's counter to my feeling (shared by healthcare experts) that in this pandemic you plan for the worse and "hope" for the best
@ Lone Star: Not sure what his climate change stance is offhand. He's definitely a Republican but nowhere near a Trumper. And as I said I often disagree with him. On this it happens that my thinking has been along some of the same paths.
The economic repercussions of this event will make the actual virus look like the common cold. If this lasts even a few months, it will kill many more. Nobody has any money now, and this will just drain them of everything.
Back to the tomatoes
Never seen canned cherry tomatoes
Bet they’re tasty
Iceman, sounds like a fresh sauce. Many folks think you stew sauce for hours.
But there’s another method of quickly cooking fresh diced tomatoes quickly in butter. I actually like it better. You can taste the tomato
Kill all the telemarkers
But they’ll put us in jail if we kill all the telemarkers
Telemarketers! Kill the telemarketers!
Oh we can do that. We don’t even need a reason
it's robbing wealth from my entire street. People are hurting already.
When do the margin calls come in? My neighbor makes pretty good bread. Now's he's broke. With a mortgage and yard full of financed toys.
Poor people will always be poor. Now rich people are going to be poor. The Bernie Crowd wants wealth distribution. This is wealth evaporation.
CS, yeah it was like a 20-minute sauce, then into a pan with the chicken, cheese on top and bake. Easy quick and delicious.
Not downplaying the financial impact this is having and will have on people (I stand to make about 70% less this year) but how do you go from making good bread to being broke in a month? Margin calls? So he was so leveraged that if his positions went bust, him and his family become destitute?

Do we trust N95 masks that are advertised on TGR?
Governor Cuomo, thank you for stepping up and being the leader we desperately need right now!!! (Heck, they’re even showing his press conference on Faux news)
I'm not sure. I'm surmising my income will drop about about the same as yours and his will too. My peer group is demographically similar to me (and probably like many others on this board) and likely don't have a lot of cash sitting around. I'm going to take a massive income hit. There's only so much specie regular people have sitting around.
Having cash sitting around falls into the "D'OH... I should have backed up my hard drive". Hindsight is 20/20. That trip to Costa Rica he took after that sweet deal looked pretty good at the time, not so much now.
Guessing a very high debt to income ratio and no savings... like most of America.
