Worst thing is that almost all those masks have the plastic exhaler valve, which is not recommended for this virus.

Saw this coming and my stash arrives tomorrow.

Obama just appointed an Ebola Czar with zero experience in the medical area and zero experience in infectious disease control. A TOTAL JOKE!

For all the talk of masks, in addition to what Timberridge said, the mask has to be fitted tightly to the wearers face in order to work. This is what tight face masks & goggles looks like for Chinese nurses after a 12hr shift:

I'm not disagreeing with you. There is a absolutely a proper way to wear a mask. But let's recognize that protection from random public exposure and directly caring for an infected patient represent different threat levels.

^ Yep, the main point is you don't want people to have a false sense of security from wearing a mask and then let their guard down on more effective measures like hand washing, no face touching, etc.

So far experts say there's little evidence the virus is airborne in the sense it's just floating around. It's either close contact with an infectious person, or that person coughs, sneezes, or goes to bathroom and microscopic droplets settle on surfaces that other people touch.

My friend already has that covered. It's all Bill & Melinda Gates fault and that it's government sponsored bio warfare.

3 more cases popped up on Switzerland yesterday about 1 hour from me. Family returning from italy. Last night and today i never smelled the trains so clean. And they usually are anyways.

My wife's school (teacher) is prepping for remote classrooms from home. My work is locking down too. Might be fully remote for a while if more cases pop up. Yay!

Dr. Anthony Fauci participated in the white house coronavirus briefing yesterday and brought a very level-headed, reasoned and expert view to what was otherwise a political stunt smattered with conjecture and unsubstantiated claims and promises. Note that Fauci is head of NIAID and a leading expert on infectious disease. He's the real deal.

Now the NYT is reporting that our dear leader asked Fauci not to "say anything else without clearance." Gotta control the message I guess.

Just for fun, Fauci should give the next briefing wearing a mask.

And yes, it appears as though the proper way to use the suit is to fill the helmet with water.

So the epicenter of this shit is Hubei, where Wuhan is located. It spread unchecked at first because nobody even knew it existed. It's been over 2 months since it was identified. There are approximately 65,000 confirmed cases in Hubei. Let's say that's low by a factor of 10. So ~650,000 cases. There are almost 60 million people in Hubei. So that's somewhere around 1% of the population that possibly has or has had it. There are less than 3,000 deaths from it in Hubei, or ~.0005% of the Hubei population if my math is anywhere close. Doesn't seem that scary somehow.

Cynically, China's best move now is export this shit globally, shrug, and get back to work.

Masks are gone at home depot in SLC. My trip to look for a mask was twofold, wife wants masks for wuflu, I want masks for sanding the walls in the kitchen after I patch holes, and before priming for paint.
    sigless.
