I'm not sure how many people read anything in here but I'll post this anyway. A friend/roommate from college now lives in CO and is an excellent climber. We used to climb a lot in college (University of Northern Iowa). After college he moved to the Rockies and I moved back to Vermont. He kept climbing and I dabbled in it for a few years before it became one of the activities I just didn't have time for anymore.
Well fast forward 19 years and his kids are climbing prodigies. I've been following their experiences via Facebook but this latest accomplishment has made some headlines.
I think at age 10, I was still just riding my bike around the neighborhood. I didn't even know what El Capitan was.

That is weak, unless you had Bicycle Playing Cards (accept no substitute) in your spokes. And even then the El Cap thing wins.

Is that the famed High Exposure in the Gunks?

I took a 150' whipper off that pitch on high e the first time I led it. Veered right instead of staying on the edge, and it turned into 5.10+ really quick. I powered through at the end of the day until I completely pumped out right before topping out. Couldn't see my belayer (obviously), but was looking him in the eyes when the rope caught. Getting back to that belay station was a chore with my arms just 2 big blocks. I did manage to re-lead it proper, and it was surprisingly much easier if you embraced the edge.

A metaphor I suppose. I grew up climbing at the Gunks from age 8. Used to live in my truck at the hairpin, then got booted to various other spots that got shut down in rapid succession. I swear I had nothing to do with that.

this kid wrenches on my bike at the lbs. i saw him toproping at my gym a couple of weeks ago and when i picked up my bike for a tune i asked him if he wanted to go outside sometime. he damn near jumped out of his shoes to give me a hug on the offer.

he’d never been on real rock so i spent the day showing him anchors, how to rappel, and some other basics. he was over the moon. in the hike in he wanted to run the trail to get to the cliff faster. he slowed his pace and eased into the day. turned out to be a huge birder for a city kid. we watched a heron pull a fish out of a lake with some binocs.

couldn’t really ask for a better day, except maybe if i didn’t have to use the shiny round hold on the 12 i was fucking around on.

Black Canyon of the Gunnison...never climbed there but at least I finally saw it. Holy crap! I believe that is the famous Painted Wall in the distance with the two distinct bands of pegmatite...

Big boy and girl territory right there. Buddy of mine has been climbing there non-stop for a couple years, he's only now getting over the terror of having to slog down through the poison ivy gully then commit to massive lines or rappel in shame and slog back out.

Yeahman, that is the Painted Wall. Only done one route down in the Black but it really is a special place. An old friend and I try to get together every year for an alpine trip. We've done Washington Pass, Tetons, Enchantments, and now the Sierra. Couple shots from last week's annual trip.

Most of this years efforts have been focused on hard sport climbing, that said, I still love me some alpine playtime!
