Bandit you notice the asym vs the 2014s?

So, there is a difference but I don’t think it has anything to do with asym vs normal tail. The 2014’s are the “loosest” tail of any BG’s that I have skied. Best Tree Ski ever. My 184’s, 189’s, and SG’s are all asym with a tad less rocker and a stiffer feeling tail. My buddy who owns a 2016 179 (non-asym) skied my 2014 186’s last week and came to the same conclusion. Even though they are longer overall, they ski looser than his 179’s and he wants to find some older 186’s now.

As I have stated before, the new 189 is the best all around BG To date but the 186/191 vintage is the best pow specific version.

Finally, I cannot tell if asym does anything other than force me to make sure I have the skis on the correct feet. It certainly doesn’t make them feel weird. I don’t really notice it at all.

Agree. And the best (stock) graphic.

Have you tried skiing them on the wrong feet?

Have you BG guys skied the Renegade? I know you have as I've read previous threads. How do they compare? Being as I think the Renegade is insane in the forest, I'm curious to how the BG is the best ever. I don't want new skis but you guys keep saying that.

Got out on the C&Ds on a good day for them, finally. Feels like they like to be ridden a little further forward than protests.

Felt like there's a narrower sweet spot than my old BGs, but when I'm on it, they're magic. Specifically, it felt like standing centered is OK, but going just a bit forward gets into the RES (I assume) and they really come alive. Two untracked runs on them were special.

Not as chop-dozering as my ancient billygoats. the agility in soft and deep is better even when crossing a decent number of tracks , and the float is better.

PowTron’s Caylors rock. ‘Nuff said. These are some of the most playful, fun, stable, stompy skis I’ve ever ridden. Thanks again, PowTron! Got lots of compliments and a few lifties at T-Line recognized them as being old-school ON3P’s!

Now to decide whether to put AT bindings on the BG’s and move the STH2 16’s to the Caylors or not. The Dukes skied fine, but I can see myself reaching for these more often than the BG’s as the CD’s handle everything deeper than a few inches. First world problems!
Sell the Dukes and CAST or Shift those suckers up if you can.

2555g and 2550g. This is gonna be so sweet! Flex is nice and round, not crazy stiff.

I didn't want to hear that (narrow sweet spot). It's why I sold my Quixotes - mostly a problem in whiteouts when breaking through into underlying crust.

If my weight was anywhere other than dead-center, recovery meant dealing with squirrely behavior while trying to recenter my weight. I know I'm in the minority.

I suppose this wouldn't be as big a deal with C&Ds since they'd go out on deeper days? I'm getting tired of gambling at full retail without a demo - for a ski I'd (sadly) only get to take out 5 days/year.

    Still ... there's huge C&D lust.

I dunno. Sweet spot seems pretty big to me on the newest ones. It was narrower on the older ones with 74 cm of tip rocker

it wasn’t unpredictable when i wasn’t there, just not as magical. another way i could say it is that when i was a bit back from where i wanted to be it was not squirrely, just ok to turn instead of stupid easy. also, i’m fat. also, i’m a hack.

Maybe there's hope for me ;-). Demoing even with friends is a challenge since my Lange XT 130 Freetours are WTR only (first year). Part of me is tempted to pick up a cheap pair of alpine boots on gear swap, so I have a better chance of demoing.

Those Qs were fine in most circumstances. In a whiteout I'm balance-challenged, so I found myself wandering off the sweet spot and shit got crazy. A mid-day swap from my Qs to my CD 114s & it ceased to feel like survival skiing.

    Sorry to derail.

I'll get a quick writeup of the 2014, 186 BGs that I picked up from @lucknau in the next day or two (spoiler alert - do I really need more? They're great).

Not sure you have anything to be concerned about w/ the latest CD. Like the Chicken, i’ve Found the sweet spot to be pretty big which makes them great to ski in a variety of conditions outside their designed intent, and a dream to ski in the conditions they’re intended to ride.

Got a pair of wren 102s. Now I have to decide between shifts or kingpins. Tough choices.
But Ellen kicks ass - if she had a beard it would be much more haggard. -Jer

You need to decide between shifts and Tectons...

But why get the Tecton when you can get the kingpin that is both less reliable and heavier? ;-)

Does the Tecton have a six pack? I didn't think so.

Hahaha. I keep thinking that having an alpine style heel has got to improve the tech binding experience.

Because you are not having fun until your pins break or you fall skinning and ruin your boot . Seriously though, I am pissed at Marker because the Kingpin would be an awesome binding if not for the catastrophic failures. No icing issues, easy transitions, good on the up, great on the down but all that doesn’t matter once your pins break. Tectons are definitely under rated.
