I hope to find an used Ford F-350 gasser as well but I heard about new truck in 2020 with even bigger motor plus I think getting the new aluminum truck bed sounds good too to save the weight for the camper. But the new truck is oh so pricey...

We had local SLC guy build a ski box for the back of the sprinter. Holds 5 pair up to 202cm long. Held by movable posts that the skis slot between. I try and have the posts rest on a ski strap to avoid tip compression. Poles fit as well.

Keeps the snowy skis out of the van but protects from the elements.

I really like the adventure trailer idea. Also an easy way to expand on a truck camper for events where you want to sleep more people. Not much more to ask of the truck either, but I think it makes chaining up mandatory (depending on conditions) in this part of the world.

I still really want to build my own version of one of those. Thought it'd be a kick-ass project. Just need space money and time I dont have. But you could do it. Especially if you bought the walls prefab from somewhere like total composites.

Somewhere in this thread, in the 178 preceding pages, there was some discussion of later-model gas Ford F250/350 trucks. IIRC it was something like 2011+, with the 6.2L V8, were getting (relatively) inexpensive and are reliable. Who's got the knowledge here on those? Any significant options to seek out or to avoid? (e.g. any known bad transmissions or bad transfer cases?) I want either 4 full doors or at least rear doors that open on both sides (currently have a 3-door ext cab), an 8-foot bed, 4WD, and SRW.

I think it's getting to be time to replace our camper/beater truck (2000 GMC Sierra 2500, 6.0L gas V8). It'll need a bunch of front end work sometime soon, and the rust underneath won't make that easy. It'll need new tires in another year or so as well.

I don't need a diesel (low annual mileage use, only light towing) and don't want the added expense of purchase & maintenance.

Oh yes. We had a discussion about it a long time ago(maybe a year ago now?) when everybody was talking about diesel vs gas vs price comparison.
The Ford 6.2 is solid, just gets overshadowed by the 6.7 diesel. I am in the exact same boat. I have a 2002 Dodge SRW 2500 24v cummins with 308k on it and I am seriously thinking about going with a 2011+ Ford F-350 6.2. Here in Colorado, you can find nice 2011-15 Ford F-250/350's with say 100k on them for $15k and 20k on the high side. That is literally 15-20k cheaper than their diesel counterparts.
I am in the debate to drive the wheels off of the 2002 Dodge 2500 24v, which I have been doing forever but like you, just because miles I will want to put a new injection pump($1k) and a new turbo($1k)..and a host of shit that could potentially go wrong with my 300k+ miles.
My truck always starts, has enough power, but I honestly just want something newer, rides nicer, isn't the loudest diesel ever made, and has no problems starting in cold weather. I am torn whether to just update/upgrade the ole' trusty 24v Cummins or go to a newer modern gas.
Also, the gas F250/350 have better payload capacity than the 6.7 diesel just due to diesel weight. If you don't need to tow heavy shit on the regular, it really is a no brainer....unless budget is a non-issue then go diesel.

We've had a 2010 F-250 crew cab under our beater Northland for 7 years now I think. Put about 28K on it, paid $10K with 98K on the odo. Base model...vinyl floors, crank windows, cloth seats, manual locks. No motors to worry about. Perfect.

All I've done is brakes when I got it and tires.

The 5.4 isn't a beast but I can do 60 mph up Georgetown hill if I want to.

I know everyone poo poos the tow behind option, but thats what we went with for many reasons. We ran through a couple days of gnarly driving in CO and New Mexico with our hummingbird over the holidays; hardpack, fresh, and ice. No issues other than dealing with -2 F one night. We carry many sets of chains though. (Rubies)

I've seen a few pop up just over the last 6 mo of browsing. Seems like if it's a 4x4 they triple the price. They seem to sell. Probably nowhere near asking but no way to know.
