Looks like BV lost power last night, but they still have their two express lifts running. Funny how such a small, local, not of interest for Wall Street resort can really have their shit together and the giants just don't. It does kind of make sense that the company that owns ABasin is kicking ass at BV. Can this company by my resort please?
BV was sold to a different owner a few years ago called skyline investments. But really your point still stands.

Put loaded (family) truck into snowbank today on old 40. First time ever (gotta happen at some point, I guess). Safely made it home. Disappointed, but safe.

Great snow at heave this am. Not quite enough for a full reset within the ropes since closing but did get it in the slack. Did notice some slab formation in between laps on exposed west ridges. Out track resetting each lap.
Some rad lines should be going down this week weds/thurs. stokemeter starting to redline

    NS is hella crowded.
    Feels colder than expected.
But we are drying out with a spiced rum hot choc, so, yeah wet...

Good morning. That place is like the movie Planes, trains, and automobiles..
Started in Cali. Powderbowl to Ellie's woods. HIked to the top for Killebrew then Out the gate to the bus stop below. Still type 2 fun to get out and had to line snake at the bus depot.

Keep Snowing, Keep Snowing, Keep Snowing
I'm cool with this, as long as you Kirkwood Bro Brah's stay away from Heavenly when 88 closes- TahoeBc

8 years ago I put my Subie into the bank with my pregnant wife in the passenger seat. Hit black ice on a 43F evening. Clear sky. Right were the daily melt runs over a turn on a descent. Scary as fuck, and it has since really slowed me down even on warm days and nights in those areas I know to be prone. Disappointed, but safe was also my feeling. Funny things my wife thought I handled the spin out like a pro. She said I was calm, and managed to hit the bank only up hill swing, so it was a super gentle landing.

another lap in the safe zone today. don't expect it to be safe tomorrow

and also this just came out
    Coupled with wind and drier
character of snow, expect life threatening conditions with zero
visibility. Even a short walk could be deadly since it would be
easy to become disoriented. Vehicular travel would be beyond
    foolish
, but if you choose so, have a plan to be able to survive
being stranded for many hours as first responders will not be able
    to reach you quickly.

Guess there was a meeting Friday on Traffic, figured nothing would come of it, but it appears the police are out in force right now ticketing people without chains and turning people around in residential area's, once again the Waze comments are pretty entertaining.

Was about to head out, but stuck home again for awhile, actually surprised there is that much traffic leaving town right now, town seemed amazingly uncrowded this weekend.

Last night there was a changeable sign at the Donner Lake interchange that said Local Traffic Only, no Freeway Access, or something like that. Not that it was needed last night. But it's a step.
Coming down steady all day but not getting any deeper. I decided to save my legs for tomorrow, or Tuesday if the storm of the century ever arrives. We old folks have to husband our resources.

Snow was really light (with a spongy base) at 7am and noticeably getting warm and heavier by 9 or so.

Yesterday was phenomenal at KW. Wet at the bottom but cold and creamy up top. Word start circulating that the pass was going to close at 1. We hustled back to the car and hit the road by 12:10 to no avail as they ended up closing it around 12:30 for avy control. Sat for an hour and made it back to South Lake without issue.

Skied Heavenly this morning after dropping my buddy off at the Reno airport. Killebrew was delectable, especially now that the high traverse is in.

We found pretty heavy trenching snow around mid-day today. Currently holed up at Hope Valley Sno Park drinking beer and anticipating the next few days of glory.

Thanks. Was not going too fast, i lost the road for a sec from wind gust in a small open area with a banked curve, went up a small berm on the roadside, (over) corrected, and that was it. Plenty of times over the past 28 years driving on snowy high wind roads when I can’t see the road for short stretches.

We do ok here in Calibama... The power went out at the mountain about 0830, just in time to slow down our opening, but lift maintenance got the flying couch running on APU pretty quick.

Fun day for me. Up at 0400, ski to the truck. AC from 0600 to 0830. It’s my normal day off so I skied until noon then came home to shovel snow and cook. Back at it at 0400 tomorrow..

Well, if makes any difference, they were open by 1:30 (when I checked their website). Seemed like they did a quick clear. Would be cool if they might able to predict that. I imagine that top only got better later.

Friends left KW at 9ish this morning. Made it to Placerville in about 3 hours. One of them has to be at a work this week for sure. They were pretty stoked they left when they saw the pass close at 11AM

    from the article
Lowther did say that Caltrans or El Dorado County Department of Transportation can upload electronic road closures to Waze and Google apps. They wouldn't be real road closures, just telling the apps to send drivers in another direction
    and this

the associated text says "Road Closure - North Upper Truckee closed until midnight

I would add Mandan to the list

Honestly it seems in these apps' best interest to have this info cause sending people these wayz just makes the apps look bad too.

Got a late start for Waterhouse and got stuck on Pioneer with Mandan being closed. Turned around and ended up playing around the trees on fake Trimmer. Wet and heavy low elevation snow but no instabilities notes. Surprisingly little wind although we didn’t reach the fake summit.

Interesting to read all the reports on snow conditions from around the lake.
The Lake Tahoe Microclimates are no joke (I think they are crazier than the San Francisco microclimates).
Everything at The Star in the Mid-Mountain area (i.e. low on the hill) was silky goodness when I was skiing between 10 am and 12 noon today.
I cut out early and when I got into town 80 was closed at the 89 overpass (approx 12:45). Lottsa toolorist jackholes blocking up the roundabout and those that weren't were clogging Donner Pass Road. Guess people really had to get home to see the Stuporbowl. I ended up doing some minor backroad finnagling to get home.
Been lightly but consistently snowing non-stop since 1pm here in T/D.

    Listen to this.

Utah Avalanche Center podcast interview with Jake Hutchinson, former Ski Patrol and Snow Safety Director at The Canyons.

Good insight into ski area avalanche work.

I know this is the wrong thread, but June is reporting 98" for the storm so far and 72" in 24 hours. Picture from friends in June confirm tunneling-to-front-door amounts.

Commute home was super smooth. Who do I thank? Stooper Bowl? NWS warnings? Bay Area folk for staying home? CalTrans?

    Snowblower pull cord broke though...

Pretty mellow drive down to city life on 80. So, onward to the next hype fest: NWS is saying the dump winds down Tuesday evening, & Wednesday's sunny with a high of 24F (Soda Springs). I'll have to miss that one, but my wife (who enjoyed today's cement fest & blizzard well enough) is talking about heading back up the hill.

6 feet in 24 hours. How does Patrol mitigate that kind of loading?

I may have seen your imprint. I pointed out a large, obvious one to spouse on the way down.

Bob, thanks for saying hey. Would've chatted for a minute if I wasn't loading little guys one the chair *right* then.

This afternoon's NWS Sacto discussion is interesting. Check paragraph 3...
