No joke. Each and every time it's like talking to a wall

Yesterday, the ol' Volvo just started busting fuses for the radio and nav screen, so gotta chase down some shorts lurking somewhere within the miles of wiring. Also got the 'gear selector service required' warning the same day, so been tearing into that too. Spent all night tearing apart that "waterfall" center console and shifter. This is not going to be fun. Time to start busting out those "life skills" since paying a proper Euro mechanic's would likely cost me as much as the car's even worth being as diagnosing these things can be such a freaking nightmare just to pinpoint. Ugh. On the plus side, scored a rental car for the weekend for only $12 a day, so at least that was a win.

Wife and I been wanting a newer, more economical car, but damn it'll be tough to find something as nice as what we already have for what we can afford. I suppose we'll deal with these cheap fixes until something major like the tranny or engine blows. Car's been utterly dependable until now so I guess we've been pretty spoiled and I really shouldn't be complaining, but damn, I still hate chasing down electrical gremlins on European cars no matter what.

That RTD tries to pass this shit off as Bus Rapid Transit:

Ooooh, BRT branding! And dedicated lanes (where possible). Which is nowhere, there are no dedicated lanes. Just HOV lanes in some places that the bus also uses.

Perhaps look at NOT getting a newer car and just renting when you need one?

For real! Made me realize that a bit of down time here and there isn't THAT big of a deal when you could rent a car for a month than less than a single car payment. I suppose I can also grab an Uber when push comes to shove. One thing's for sure, though. I REFUSE to buy a brand new car with the ridiculous prices they are these days. I refuse to have car payments, even if it means I have to buy an old beater. Car payments used to be the norm for me, but after finally breaking that cycle about 8 years ago, there's just no going back to that. Even if it means our cars need some extra TLC every now and then.

Yup - it's amazing how much less repairs hurt when you're not paying $500/mo on a car payment.

But keep in mind the "rent instead of buy" - do some math and see if it works out. If you're in a reasonably populated area, supplement with Lyft/Uber.

If it makes you feel better, Seattle has a BRT system and it's almost exactly is described in this graphic. At least Denver has a decent light rail system. We're still a decade out from having something that's really useful for more than a tiny percentage of the population.

Denver's light rail system is not as good as it seems. It's really slow. So until traffic gets much worse, it loses in the important game of which is faster, driving or public transport. I do give them credit for building it in today's world, it ain't easy to do in a modern big city. But they did not consider (or maybe considered and rejected) any possibility for express trains (like in NYC, where there's the local and the express). The fact that every single train makes every single stop defeats much of the advantage that a train has over cars in traffic.

Wait until you get the bill and see that taxes and fees bump that up to $50/day.

I pull in with my other vehicle into my space at the condo complex. Right behind me someone pulls in on the other side of the jag which is across on the other side of the lot about 25ft across
When I get out I see they parked almost on the line towards my car, them head in, my car was backed in.

So I sit there for 4 minutes while she finishes her phone call, me wondering how she is going to get out without hitting my car

Mind you in still salty bc my GMC got hit 2 weeks ago hit and run in the physician parking lot.

She finally gets out her door gently taps my door and her small old ass is able to squeak out. She then closes her door next I see her literally drop her purse onto the hood of my car start moving it around and then rummaging it probably for her apartment key or something. and then start walking over and she finishes that and starts walking away. That's what I call her and politely ask her to not drop her bag on my hood and possibly scratch it with all the metal hooks and straps that were attached to her bag and that she parked very close to my vehicle tapped it and also would make it very difficult for me to get inside my car because she parked far too close.

She tried to start arguing and I walked away.

Maybe you should have cast a spell on her and turned her into a newt or something.

Just be glad you don’t work east coast hours and have to find a new way to work while they retrofit tunnels for next 3 years (estimate)
