Let me know how your K108 mount of -2 goes. Also a directional skier and we apparently are never going to get snow in Tahoe so I have some time to be patient.

FWIW. Directional skier. Enjoy the recommended mount on the Kartel line. In face. I do t think I have ever deviated from the recommended mount on any ON3P ski.
Training for Alpental
I liked the K108 at -2
I hear you. Last year, I picked up a pair of 189 W108s and of the handful of days I skied them, they whooped my ass. Part of that is I'm not skiing 50+ days like I used to and part of it, I think, is that the terrain here in the PNWet is not like SW Montana, where I skied my 191 Wren flat tails. Here, I think the shorter 184 would slay.
I still need to get a few more solid days on the 108s to see if I get with them or I move them on down the road for some 184s.
Yes, this. The line, always. I second guessed it on the BillyGoats, came to my senses, mounted on the line, and in the end, the line is correct answer.
I think we need a sticky at the top of this thread that appears on every page: RES ON THE LINE.
thanks for the feedback guys, sounds like even directional skiers are going recommended mount point which i guess doesn't surprise me too much - i was just a little taken back by the difference in recommended point between the Wrens and the Kartels. yep different skis, different flex, geometry, etc...different mount points, i totally get that
i do recall reading more than one post about only mounting on the recommended for the BG, what with the RES and unique geometry of that ski it's no surprise folks have issues deviating from it.
fwiw ON3P did tell me to not deviate more than -2cm or +2cm because you then run the risk of mounting outside the intended area of the ski - maybe additional reinforcement there? also because of the shape/flex pattern of the ski and the bi radial sidecut it seems there could be issues
thanks again for the input guys, looks like its 3 for on the line, 2 for -2cm? i'm gonna let this one sit for a while and whatever i do end up choosing i'll post up results...
Wife and I are Directional skiers here too.
All our ON3P’s are mounted on the line and wouldn’t dream of moving them. Specifically, the K98’s are perfect and I’ve never wanted to move them or felt overly centered. To their credit, when you’re tired at the end of the day early in the season, they let you get away with backseat driving and lazy slarves.
I haven't played with mount points on Kartels. I did play around with some demo bindings on Jeffreys though. I forget which model - I think the 110 underfoot version. This was awhile ago, but they did have an early version of the elliptical sidecut.
I'm very much a directional skier and like Wrens and BGs on the line. I routinely mount Praxis skis -1 or -2cm.
I did like the old Jeffrey's better at -2cm. Elliptical sidecut is relatively straight underfoot, so I think you can get away with moving the mount a little bit vs something like RES where the mount point is critical. The ON3P recommendation of +2 to -2 on Kartels is about right I think. But although I liked the Jeff better at -2, in some ways I was making the ski something it was not. I'm more comfortable when I'm pressuring the tip of the ski heavily and I suck at skiing switch. Moving the mount made the ski feel more natural to me, but it didn't necessarily make it better.
If I bought Kartels I'd either mount them on the line or maybe -1cm. But, I'd be buying Kartels to have a jibby, centered mounted, easy going ski - that has way more capability at speed than most skis in it's class. If I wanted a directional ski I'd buy Wrens. The current iterations of the Wren, especially the 98, are much easier going than the old Wrens that have the reputation of needing to be skied with your hair on fire all the time.
I own 193 Supergoats mounted on th line and love them. Have both 189 wren 98 and 108 mounted on the line and absolutely love them. Have 191 Kartel 116s mounted on the line and love them. Have 191 Kartel 108s on order and going to mount them on the recommended line and no doubt will love them. If you like driving a ski and don't ski switch go Wren. I am sure the Kartel skis fine -2 from recommended, but to me the Kartel series was not meant to be driven. You ski it center and it is fun as shit and still gets after it.
Like Adrenalated said you can move the mount point and no doubt it will ski fine, but to me you are trying to make the something it is not. The Kartel is so fun and easy going. Makes the mountain fun and you can just relax on it. Fast as shit edge to edge and can throw it sideways so easily. No doubt it is not a charger like the Billy or Wren series, but still holds its own.
Big day at the Detrusor house. Wife’s custom billy goats arrived!
Stupid question, are the correct left and right in the picture? No markings.
