The ride arounds have gotten so bad on our popular trails that they are no longer singletrack. The trail will run hundreds of yards at 6+ feet wide until it hits hard restrictions in the form of large trees or boulders, then gets wide again.

I've had really good luck blocking ride-arounds with limbs and shit. I think that people are too lazy, and/or think that somebody "official" did the blocking, so they leave them alone. We see a fraction of the riders some of you guys do, which also helps.
Remind me. We'll send him a red cap and a Speedo.

One loop at Snowbasin had two separate regional high school races on the same weekend. 2000 plus participants riding 2-3 laps each.

I've been battling with some unknown rider for months on another go round. This one admittedly bypasses a more technical section but it's the principle. I've been throwing all kinds of debris down and every time back it is gone and the b-line re-opened. Unfortunately people here are not too lazy. It may take digging a big ass hole and plopping a massive rock in the hole to block the line completely.

The problem in this area is its a local trail network that attracts all the weekend warrior and after work riders, in fairly large numbers. Tried to build the trails so that people wouldn't want to or be able to cut corners but after a few years more rock is getting exposed and people are going to ride around those spots. I don't get it. But understand it's the lowest common denominator. We have a lot of trails too that are a wide mess of multiple lines.

Same here. Uphill riders avoid every obstacle and downhillers can't stay between the lines.

Damn, that's a lotta spandex. We have those races, but it's more like 200 riders, and they mostly only race at the places I don't really like to ride.

Same around here. I've decided to just go with it, since there's fuck-all I can do about it. And here, it's EVERYBODY (bikers, hikers, and horsies) that avoids rocks/roots/obstacles.

Fuck - people will even fucking go around 3" tall water bars. There's one trail here that's pretty narrow by Front Range standards (~12"), but the trail at EVERY FUCKING WATER BAR is 2-3' wide.

    Ah, well. Fuck 'em.

The fun line is still there. Whats the big deal? How does this hamper your fun in any way?

We found that if you make an obstruction that takes 2 or 3 dudes to move, they stay put, as the pussy line fuckwads are usually ashamed, and do their business solo.

It's an eyesore and makes MTBers look irresponsible to other users when the trail gets braided wide all over the place. Keep the singletrack single!

I really like the idea of a giant hole for people to fall into. Maybe with punji sticks at the bottom.

Pssst - it's a climbing trail. There is no "fun" line.

Yeah I don't get the headphones in the forest thing. Must have gone by a half dozen people yesterday who didn't hear me ringing the bell and saying "hi, how's it going, coming by over here." Like, it's kind of good to be somewhat aware of your surroundings?

Yesterday I got to the top of a trail and heard some voices coming up the other side, so I waited, expecting a group of hikers or bikers to be up shortly. Turned out it was just one girl on the phone. I guess that's a good way to warn the bears but I really didn't need to hear any of your conversation. Also why do people hold phones flat 6" in front of their face?

Ha, some groms around here used to dig a huge hole wherever riders tried to go around a jump on their DH trails. Punji sticks would have made it obvious but there was still a guy here who claimed holes were meant to kill him specifically and he was going to have his sheriff friend "take care of them". I suggested he should just stop talking shit about how great a rider he was if he wasn't going to hit any of the jumps.

I keep hoping the rattlesnakes will take care of some of those people.

One of our really cool old unsanctioned techy trails got officialized and turned into a flow trail.

One classic expert only feature is impossible to remove or make easy.

They killed the old ride around that was the trail for all but the best riders and made the trail totally bipass the feature.

They made the old trail so impassible people who shouldnt even considering doing the feature are rather than backtracking which would require pushing up where people could be riding down..

Come up behind a trail runner Saturday.

Behind you! Nothing. A little louder, behind you!! Still no reaction. EXCUSE ME! Nope. Screaming 5 feet from his head HEY BUDDY!!! Nothing. Finally had space and passed him through some weeds.

Its one way single track, crowded AF. A dozen riders must have dealt with this fuckstick.

Lots of rage out there for a handful of ride arounds. All the talk of enforcing and punishing reminds me of why some people really love gated communities. Everyone’s lawn just right, nobody changing their oil in the driveway, fines for painting your mailbox the wrong color. I honestly see the appeal .......... assuming of course everyone agrees with me.

Ha, and then on top of that, they act all indignant about the fact that you surprised them.

That is actually frowned upon? I couldnt think of a more americana scene than a person changing their own oil in the driveway of their well kept front yard on a Saturday morning.

Handful? We have plenty of places where people have made ride-arounds around the ride-arounds, and then those were apparently still too hard to too slow, or too ___? so people made ride-arounds around those. At some point you have to put your foot down before the place gets completely trashed.

You'd think after the 17th time in a row a person would realize they're the problem, but that of course would be asking too much. Or maybe it's really the bikers fault for being too quiet. They're scaring people and wildlife and don't belong on our trails.

I'm surprised I haven't heard of anyone getting chewed on by a mtn lion or bear because they were jogging alone with headphones. Not that they haven't always been there but this summer I've seen more bears than I have in like the last 5 combined plus a mountain lion. Also a big bobcat the other day which was neat.
