That's pretty dumb. I can't imagine driving up there is all that much quicker than riding up. It's not like it's a long climb.

With the condition of the road to get to the bottom of the DH it is 6s on a good day I think the total vert if < 350'.

After a hard rain the clay out there becomes so greasy you might find yourself at the bottom of one of the little short steep hills and find you are not able to go anywhere. That would have been justice.

From what I gathered this group drove out there and then began driving off road as high up the DH section as the could get. There isn't a road so they were going XC.

That is bad enough, having reps from the BLM along certainly didn't do Mtn Bikers any good.

Someone else said we can be our own worst enemies sometimes.

Word. People keep telling me Stone Creek is good to go. I find that hard to believe, especially after last night downpour.

In an effort to start to get back to where my fitness level was a month ago I opted for Sourdough to Leverich today. It was a bit squishy in a few spots but I never felt like I was damaging the trail.
I have been in this State for 30 years and I am willing to admit that I am part of the problem.

In Salida, CO, dogs have to stay on the concrete path in the parks. I was told by a cop today that my dog had to get off the lawn, though in reality he was on his pad next to the picnic bench so he was having to lay on the rocky not-lawn that was there. I am sorry officer, I didn't realize since there are so many other dogs out there that you are not addressing. Fuck, WTF? What kinda bullshit is that? I had to look around to find the small writing on the park sign. But I wasn't looking, cuz why would I? I still can't believe that is what they are going for.

We like rain on our trails this time of year. PNW dirt is near perfect.

I always thought multi-use was doomed. From the beginning of our local access movements MTBers as a represented group have adhered to a couple dynamics that I think ultimately become realities, and in that shift have become something MTBer a individuals never wanted to be.

When the single track explosions happened around here they weren't multi-use. The hikers had a well established network of sanctioned trails that were by statement or proxy, hiking only. The Single Tracks were also kind of secret. The opposite of marketed. Even if trails weren't "Secret", the knowledge was held in confidence by the shops and locals. When I went to a town I had to go to a shop, chat, hang out. Maybe go for a ride with a local. Maybe I would have to ride a spot a few times before I had it figured out for a good fun ride. That seemed to be a large part of the scene, the appeal. The connections made to exist as a community.

The trails went in by, for, and of the MTBers in that area. Different spots had different styles and therefore character. They were bike-optimized and hikers would walk them and in a lot of cases left to think WTF. We never saw hikers on the trails. When we "Went Legit" we used the leverage of "Multi-use" and "Economic Driver" to convince land managers to allow access. It worked.

Now we create conflict by simply having 2 user groups traveling are much different speeds on the same trails. Hell, I'm scared when 200 pounds of Brah comes cookin' by me on single track when I'm climbing and they are working on their race-line for next week's enduro.

We also put our shit for $ALE! Folks are buying. A lot of them show up...even in the rain.(Or just after) They PAID! They are here to spend money. Don't ride? What do you want them to "Take their money somewhere else???" (a threat you will hear tossed around when any level of localism is suggested as a better model than capitalism). These users are ENTITLED to your trails. They booked 3 months ago. Not gonna skip their sesh, and don't you guys have paid trail workers? They can just fix it later.

In a time when there were gate keepers there was a level of control through a system of localism. We built trails for us and built the whacky shit we wanted to ride. Homogenization and a promise of multi-use trail systems has created user conflict by inviting a bunch of disconnected consumers to ride our brown sidewalks at mach-looney, rain or shine while also convincing all the visiting families that those same trails are a great place to take a walk with the dog and the 3 year old on a sunny Sunday in July.
    Community vs commodity.
Not saying it can't be figured out and likely has been elsewhere, but as much as we can be our own worst enemy...we also have created our own problems over time by selling out the original vision to the promise of dollars.

Thanks. Still haven't been out there. Seems pretty cool but a little to far of a drive for whats available.

Did a couple laps on the BMT at Snowbird yesterday. Now my fork feels like the damper is blown and the headset is loose on my wife's bike that barely has 5 hours on it. Damnit.

Somewhat similar issues around here. Although the problem with our "secret" trails is that they kinda need to get a bit more traffic. Nature is retaking them. It's a fine line between not enough and too much.

We have that problem with quite a few trails that aren't secret at all. If it's a tough climb and more than 30 minutes outside of SLC there's a decent chance that packing forearm pads is a good idea simply for the bush-bashing on the way down.

It hasn’t rained in ages so the trails have been blown out. But now it’s starting to rain and the trails will be muddy. Have to wait a week or so for the tack dirt and the forest to open back up.

Haha. This spring I got passed on a climb by an ebiker in cutoff jean shorts, a wife beater and no helmet. I couldn’t decide whether I should be impressed or annoyed.

Was he going up Spiro with a bandana? If not, I saw his doppelgänger some other day in the spring.

Probably the same dude, but this was in Mueller Park. Back in mid April before PC was rideable.

Was topping off mrs jm2e's commuter tires last night before bed. Pull the pump off one of them and the fucking valve explodes. More specifically, the screw pin part of the Presta valve blew out. Never seen that before. Down to one car this week and no skinny tubes in the house, so I have to drive her to work. Fack Meh.
However many are in a shit ton.

Had a similar thing happen a few months ago; the pin broke and fell out, so the inner seal was still intact, but no way to refill the tube. First time I’ve ever seen that happen.

I've had that happen. Sometimes you can thread it back in, or if it's a removable valve core you can remove the whole thing and replace with a core from another tube.

In my case, the pin just snapped; no way to fix. New tube.
