Saw a 50ish yo woman on an emotorbike on the TRT last week. It was a moderately technical spot (Watson Creek area) and she was doing the seated pushing with one foot thing, not sure if she was out of juice or just in over her head, though I'm guessing it's the latter as this was a downhill section. Didn't realize she was breaking the rules until she was past me, so couldn't call her out for being a dumbass. Didn't look like she was having fun, though, so maybe she learned a lesson.
Also finally actually lifted one up the other day for the first time. It was the Trek fs, which I imagine is one of the better engineered models. I was expecting heavy, but damn, it's like the motor and battery are made of lead, and this coming from someone that rides a fairly stout bike.

Depends on the rider, if your a skilled rider your not gonna have a problem on a ebike.

The new specialized that’s being announced next week looks interesting, rumor is 40% greater range in a lighter package

That pic looks like a really small easy air, not sure if it proves anything about ebikes. All the skilled, very skilled riders that I know and have ridden them have a completely different opinion than you do. Not saying they hate them, but on steep tricky downhills I've heard they can be awkward. I'm sure they are fine for a lot of trails though. I'd like to try one at some point.

Have not ridden one myself so take anything I say with a grain of salt. Just seen what a couple buddy’s can do on em and have seen them out ride me on steep tech trails but that’s prolly just cause I suck.

IDK if this is a surprise, but ebikes are 20% of Specialized’s business now.

Once I got the hang of controlling the extra mass I found it plenty easy to launch and move the bike around. You do have to give a bit of extra thought to when you brake and how hard to brake going into some maneuvers and depending on the system (torque sensors or what have you) a bit of a pedal stroke at the right time will make all the difference in pulling through something smoothly or arguing with it. Like I said though, once you get the timing down it's all easy.

Not surprised. Last summer around Tahoe I saw maybe a few e-bikes all summer. This year I feel like I see one every time I go on a ride. I did appreciate last weekend when a couple of them passed us on a fire road climb, one of the guys said something like, "Sorry, I know we're cheating." lol... now that mentality I can respect.

I have to admit, once they're closer to 35 pounds and under $6k I'd be pretty interested in being able to squeeze in more downhills in an afternoon. But I suspect it will be a while before both of those things happen.

I've ridden a levo, rocky altitude and 2019 giant trance ebike and they are a shit load of fun.

The Rocky stands ahead of the rest in power and really feels like my Enduro when descending. It handled all the drops and jumps on my local dh trails and I pedaller to the top without breaking a sweat.

2019 Giant was only a parking lot test but it is close to the Rocky in power.
Levo is a top notch trail bike but not enough travel for me, the Knevo would be a better match.

Norco has a few models coming out for 2019 that look interesting also.

What did they ride? There's a huge range in the quality of the Ebikes out there right now.
They are going to get better and cheaper, but if you want a really good one, they'll still be pricey.
I bet in five years, 80% of you guys will have them.

    No, it's because they're riding a motorcycle.

    No they aren't motorcycle.

I bet within a year you'll be pro e mountain bikes.

    What's the downside?

Thats a good question. I'll ask.

I don't think I will buy one if they aren't allowed in most places, so that 80% seems high to me. But I don't really have a clue where you actually can go with them so take that with a grain of salt. Is everyone just planning on doing it illegally anyways since there is no enforcement?

But it's good to hear everyones opinions on them.

I think that everyone will be overwhelmed by the explosion in e mountain bikes. And the regulators will be forced to accept them.

As will be the old folks on horses.

Around here, they are legit everywhere all the rest of the motorized shit is, plus Corner Canyon (for now).

in all fairness, thats the same dude you was throwing whips on a-line on a roadbike a few years back. He could ride a duck down tresspasser and still do it faster and more in control than me.

Ya he’s a great rider. Some really good results on the ews this year. His commencal ebike is 150r/160f. The weight is going to be noticeable but I think I’d still ride all the same trails, just more laps. For comparison the newspecialized kenevo (180mm f/r) should only be 8-10lbs more than the new aluminium yt tues dh bike. Kenevo costs twice as much but much better suspension/parts
Bunch of interesting things in this episode(sales/import numbers, e enduro series, Pilgrim, new specialized line up next episode). Sweet ebike legal trails in hood river. Dude is shredding pretty smooth on his kenevo. Almost forgot, no more sweating

Can’t wait to see the deets on the new special Ed’s E’s

Nah you still work for it just differently. The good ones use torque sensors so you need to put out to get anything out of it unless you just want to putt along and that won't work going uphill, only on the flats. You hear people saying they climb faster and that's true but they're working pretty hard to make it happen. You're also getting a different upper body workout because you need to move the additional mass around and you still need to be smooth so you can't just point and shoot, breaking traction still has the same negatives.

About 4 minutes later I passed him pushing his bike with a flat, I could have been nice but I just said, "Hey, can I get by you?" and pedaled on by with my spare tube, pump and tools. I'm such a dick.
