A few rides in on the new Michelin wild enduro rear. Have it in my trail bike(scout). One xc trail ride, alpine ride and a blown out steep moon dust dh trail. Nice balance between quick rolling and braking/climbing traction with edgy side knobs. Definite rolling speed improvement over wild rockr2, dhf2, onza citius. Traction was good up and down and I can lean into the side knobs with nice bite. Doesn’t look like it’ll be great in the mud. Center knobs are close together. If 1100g tires are your bag and your looking for a little more rolling speed without giving all the traction away, it’s a nice option. I think
I’ll keep with a wr2’s, dhf2, citius or try a wild enduro front as a rear tire for my freeride bike

Rock gardens melt before you and you have to try to slide the thing. It may not be cool, or the fastest XC, but it is fun. And I’m at the point in life where I know I’m not cool, so I might as well be laughed at with a smile on my face.
I tested that pipeline bike when I was still doing that for the TGRz and that bike is STUPID fun. It came with rekons on it which had way more traction than a first glance at them would have indicated. He's gonna love that thing! Such a poppy bike that rides smooth and holds easily through chunk

I’ve been riding 2.4 or 2.35 since they were made. So ya, I understand them. My kid wants the plus size he has and likes. Tried to sell him on 2.6 or 2.5. He said I’m keeping up with the varsity guys now, and I like them. So trying to tackle rolling resistance another way. The Rocket Ron’s are the first tire I’ve experienced having knobs tear off, so trying to search for something else.

He's on 2.8" DC Rekon's right now? Tell him he doesn't know what he's talking about, get him a 2.5WT DHF 3C front and 2.5WT Aggressor rear.

Thanks WDG. Best investment I’ve made for the kid. He’s riding 5-7 days a week for hours. Today he’s knocking off 25 miles of single track in the soft post rain dirt while I’m in an office reviewing contracts. To be 15 again!

Your posts are very unclear. First you mentioned Racing Ralphs, which don't come in plus size, then you say the Rocket Ron's which are available in plus. The Rocket Rons are generally well regarded as an XC trail tire, and there's nothing wrong with running them for long XC rides.

You should probably look at the Maxxis Rekon's then, a bit more tread and reasonably durable. Available in 2.8 and 2.6, 3C MaxxTerra and DC in both sizes. 2.6 3C front and 2.6 DC rear would be a good trail XC combo, but you could go 2.8 3C front and 2.6 DC rear for a bit more beef in the front end with still good rolling resistance in the rear.

Before I read through the whole thread, maybe I can just ask:

Looking to replace my DHF on the rear of my bike. I love the traction (though it's starting to lose some grip from wear), but I feel like the rolling resistance is a bit too high. Want something that is somewhat similar but maybe rolls slightly better.

Running tubes (yeah yeah) and hate pinchflats, so needs to be a reasonably burly tire. Also, do a lot of high speed descending, so also needs to be burly to handle that.
    26" (yeah yeah).
Colorado front range (if that matters)
Maybe in the 2.4" range? (the DHF was a 2.5, but those 2.5s are more like a 2.35)
Prefer Maxxis tires, but willing to consider others

Michelin Wild Rock'R2. Get the "harder" compound (Gum-X?). They still make 'em in 26".

Be careful - it will probably be more traction than you're used to.

Oh - and rolling resistance, David, is a feminist issue.

Aggressor. Highroller 2 would be good as well, but they wear out kinda quick as a rear tire.

Not if you get them in the DC (which stands for dual-compound, I think... despite the fact that it should stand for Death Compound) - they are pretty durable. Which is a shame, because I'd really like to get rid of mine.

True. And I actually don't really mind the death compound as long as it's on the rear. Especially if conditions are mostly dry.

    This.
Cross Marks roll decent and have a similar layout knob wise too if memory serves.

    $50 with today's coupon "PREGAME15".

If you're interested, I've got a couple new 26x2.3 Tomahawks to sell for short money, they make a nice rear tire but have limited wear life.

pardon my ignorance, but when something says "tubeless ready", will it still work for little old me running tubes, right?

Yup, they'll work fine. Or you could set them up tubeless, which adds a hassle factor but significantly improves flat resistance and ride quality.

and.... they don't actually have the tire, so the order is cancelled.
