For the record. To me personally on classics. To be matching the car must have the engine and body vin match, trim and color should match the door plate. That's a "matching numbers" car to me. You're right that some are willing to make exceptions on numbers matching. I'll give ya that. I'd agree it's not 100% written in stone.

Classic cars by and large are a pain in the ass. I happen to like that Camaro but I would never own one.

The classic car market is in for a huge dip. Hence the collection sell off. No one really cares about them anymore and those that do are dying off or they are too old to enjoy them.

Agree it's typically a losing game, most do it for the love of a particular model. The caddy surely won't pay what's in it right now, but that market sure changes. Economy the way it is the prices may go up a little, but who knows. Again we agree the classic car market is fickle at best.

Especially in the restomod sector. The 67 Camaro I sold had 350k in it with every single receipt. Engine was 27k. 318 miles.

I think I sold that car for 140k. Then he lost 6% of that.

Yeah I think the "matching number" original market is stronger than the restomod. The people that want to mod want to do it their way, not what someone else wanted.

Now go back and sell some overpriced car to another small dick rich guy trying to compensate. 😀

Smart money would buy this 93 348TS Speciale. 24k miles. 312hp NA Italian V8 with a gated manual. Optional F40 style seats. 81 of 100 built for the US market. All original except for the Scuderia Rampante gold connectors. $85k. Fresh engine out major.

So to own a "gem" like this you can expect to drop $10K(?) or more on routine maintenance every 24K miles??

Typically 4-5 years. Little less than 2k a year. Or 5 bucks a day.

Limited edition Ferraris rarely go up in value though....

It's all part of the plan bud. Just sit there and keep watching.

Flashbacks of my days in sales and being pressured to add extended warranties.. "It's only X dollars/cents per Y.." I used to goat the staff to impersonate celebrities selling extended warranties when the floor was empty..

The Rock.. "Average cost of a common big repair is X... The extended warranty only costs..... IT DOESN'T MATTER HOW MUCH IT COSTS GIBRONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Rain Man.. "Extended warranty is only 100$ per year.. That's only 33 cents per day... only .000939384833 per second, about a hundred dollars..." then has hissey fit when the client says no thanks..

My parents have a '26 Dusenberg that has been in a museum for 20 or so years. Personally I think it's extremely douchy and pompous (the museum bit). Car is cool.

I have always been amused at bug eyed sprites. There has been one our local CL for $3500 that I have been slightly tempted to buy.

Tax dodge? I recollect the new tax code was supposed to mitigate that.

I think the last appraisal was around 800k. Down a good bit from the one before. Leno made them a very solid offer 10-15 years ago that was hard for them to refuse but that car has family history. Aparently it's one of the best examples. He restored it with his dad over 20-30 years. Blood, sweat and tears type thing I gather.

I'm not sure but I would not doubt it. I do know insurance is much cheaper in the museum.

I heard "it's a real doosey!".. Sorry, I always wondered if I'd ever have an occasion to use that phrase in a literal sense hahahaha!
