Why are they morons? I'm guessing the vast majority of people that buy a car are looking for a vehicle that gets them from point A to point B safely, comfortably, reasonably economically and with a decent amount of storage and passenger space. That's exactly why these type of vehicles are popular and I'm not sure how any of that makes buyers of these cars "morons."

Ford's always been garbage, so it figures. Although, didn't they not really need a bailout like GM or Chrysler?
Get me a Japanese made or designed car any day.
Ford was offered some $$$ in the bail out and they declined it.

Chrysler was purchased by Daimler Benz in 1998

Ford rules, GM blows tRumps cock.

What about their fleet program? They seem to have the largest fleet business out there. It must be a significant portion of their Tauras/Fusion business.

The company I work for probably owns 1500 F150s, 1000 Fusions, 200 Explorers, and a few larger Ford trucks and vans. All purchased through their fleet program direct from the factory.

If Ford drops the Fusions and forces us to buy Escapes, I'm sure that 5-10mpg hit is significant enough on 1000 vehicles for us to start to think about signing a contract with GM....

Well, of course you're right AD. But this is TGR. I don't drive a car simply to get from A to B, and these people are not paying attention to their fucking driving, goddammit. Get that POS out of the fucking left lane.

I think I am going to sell all my remaining Ford stock and buy a couple Yeti coolers.

But seriously sedans suck and they created the stupid senseless demand for SUV's. Middling aging sedans like Ford makes are useless. They have to discount or sell them to fleets to move them and three years down the road they fill all the buy here pay here used car lots that prey on poor people and make certain nobody with any self respect will purchase a new one for face value. The death spiral is complete and now they can rebalance.

Crossovers made wagons cool again by not being wagons because most Americans think wagons are for the Brady Bunch. Either way they are at least relatively efficient and useful to the people who buy them because they aren't wagons even though they are.

I owned a Ford Taurus SHO 5mt Sedan once after owning a decent Ford Escort hatch. The SHO was an abdomidable piece of garbage and couldn't even haul the gear for a single twenty something but at least it was interesting.

Impressive number of experts on here that know more about auto manufacturing, marketing, and sales than Ford Motor Company.

The larger fleet contracts are one-offs, but you little guys aren't nothing in aggregate.

Ford sells a lot of Exploders and F150s as fleet vehicles, and they have lost a lot of the small-car stuff to foreigners and mid-sized stuff to FCA garbage that they are willing to sell cheap because they can't move volume through dealer channels. Maybe they have thought it through and are willing to sacrifice that part of the business.

Hate all you want if it makes you feel good and/or superior, but for our uses a small SUV with AWD, 8" of ground clearance and 28MPG combined is a very practical vehicle until the day a Japanese manufacturer offers hybrid 45mpg AWD with ample ground clearance.

I'm not too shocked by Ford's move. Small cars = small margin in the N.A. market, and the domestic brands haven't figured out how to make small cars as good as those made by the Asian brands (many of which are assembled in the U.S. by U.S. labor).

You make a good point. For us skier types who live in the boonies, this is a golden age of efficient AWD vehicles with a little clearance.
The Outlander PHEV is now available in the US market. I think it may be my next car. It looks fucking great for our purposes.

huh? maybe I'm missing something but there shouldn't be a 5-10 mpg difference between the two. escapes are hudge in our industry for the office crews, I regularly see over 30mpg in my 2015.

I highly doubt that would be grounds for a change. especially considering the kind of vehicle service you get with their fleet contracts. I don't know if Chevy or anyone else has a program that is comparable, especially for large companies.

Tthey think everyone else's business should revolve around their purchasing desires, not market demand.

Slightly off topic but not, I can't understand how or why GM continues to have GMC and Chevy producing the exact same vehicles. I would think financially it would make more sense to have GMC produce all crossover/SUV/Truck models and have Chevy focus on making a reliable relivent car line.

Plugboots, not all RAV4 owners are morons thank you! [emoji867]

0-60 in 10s with diesel or gas. . Gas 58 mpg and diesel 78 mpg. Why can Americans not drive sensible cars?

Not fast but with a 6 speed manual you feel faster.Top model is 27,600 pounds list price.
