I understand the intense emotions in the heat of the moment but at that level the achievement of an Olympic medal, no matter the metal is amazing and hopefully she'll reflect on it and come to realize just what she and her team accomplished.
I have a friend who is a two time silver medalist. He's very proud of them and grateful for the experience.
That said, in my life as a competitive athlete I've seen people throw 2nd place awards in the garbage and had a good friend who came in 2nd to me do everything she could to ruin my accomplishment by being an incredibly poor sport. She was an adult and behaved like a 5yo. She made it so I could not enjoy my 1st place win which was a milestone for me competing at a higher level than I had previously. People need to grow up and realize it's not all about them and always being number one. There is much to be proud of no matter where you place. Just getting the chance to dance is an accomplishment in and of itself IMO.

With a sport like hockey, she knew going into that game that silver medal meant "loser". Thus, in the heat of that moment, the emotion is understandable.

^Good point... much different than most competitions.

How many players did she have to out perform to be chosen for the team and once she made the team how many teams did she and her team have to beat to even get the chance to play for gold? How many other teams are wishing they had that silver medal or do you think it's better to have nothing than a silver OLYMPIC medal?
All I'm saying is it's a life attitude of how you look at it that goes a long way to happiness and being proud of what you've achieved. The Canadians may have lost that match but they are still Olympic winners.

I don’t have any problem with being pissed about silver. For both these teams, anything other than gold was a huge disappointment. I doubt the Pats would be happy about taking a second place super bowl trophy. Hell, the 1972 American basketball team still haven’t accepted their silver medals. In fact, Kenny Davis supposedly put it in his will that his heirs can never accept it. Of course, the refs cheated so it’s a little different.
He thinks a sore team mate that he beat out spiked his drink. Which makes some sense since he tested clean a few weeks ago, and everyone knows there would be testing at the Olympics. It supposedly takes long term use of the drug to provide a benefit, so taking the drug just prior to competing makes no sense. I think I believe him.
Don't read more into it than is there.
1. I understand the emotion but there is a bigger picture that is positive
2. She and her team had achieved a great thing making it to the Olympics
3. She should be proud of her accomplishment, she is an Olympic Silver medalist.
I read that an athletes chances of making it to the 2012 Summer Olympics was about 1 in 562,400. Not sure what they odds are for a hockey team but I think we all know it's not something just any team can achieve.
Whoa, some serious reading issues here. Did I say she did any of those things? Did I say she was a bitch or unreasonable? I believe I said "I understand the intense emotions" but still feel she might have shown a little more restraint while the cameras were rolling and I hope that in time she feels pride in what she accomplished because she did accomplish something few do, she earned an Olympic medal.
I feel bad for anyone who earns an Olympic medal and can't see past the metal to realize what an incredible thing it is to have won. That's really sad IMO but we know it happens in so many things in life. We all fail to appreciate what we have in one way or another. Forest for the trees and all........

second can be terminal torture for people who spend years visualizing nothing but first. to come so agonizingly close magnifies the tiniest of mistakes and it can take years much less a few minutes on global television to come to terms with it.
What are you reading?
I said "I've seen people" not "I saw her" and the adult behaving like a child refers back to the prior statement about my friend who was so upset about her loss that she could not allow me to enjoy my accomplishment. I was speaking of my experience hence the reason the paragraph started out with "In my life as a competitive athlete".
Does that help clarify? I started out commenting on the Canadian Hockey player then spoke of my own experience.
This is ridiculous.

I agree, KQ- I thought it was an entitled, out of touch move that I’m sure she will regret in the future.
Thanks KQ. For grownups, sport is about doing your best, respecting your opponent, respecting the sport and acting with grace and dignity no matter the outcome. For half-baked punks like our Orange Leader it's only about winning (or in his case appearing to win). Some of my Canadian friends are embarrassed by her conduct. Maybe this is an opportunity for her to grow up.
A note: Notwithstanding the myth to the contrary, the great Vince Lombardi did not coin the term, "winning is not the best thing; winning is the only thing." That quote has been accurately attributed to an obscure college football coach. Some claim that Lombardi repeated the line, although he denied doing so and claimed that he actually said, "winning isn't everything; the will to win is the only thing."
