Thanks for the heads up about 11, but I was way too tired after shredding pow all morning.
Holy shit 11 was a bloodbath. The Christmas crowd was not prepared for the foot+ of dense snow out there. Bodies strewn about, people scraping and clawing trying to get upright and unstuck. Entire ski school classes helpless while the instructor is buried and unable to attend to the flock. It could've been the beach scene in saving private ryan. Skiers dropping left and right, somebody wandering around aimlessly holding one ski in their arms. Can't stop, just gotta keep moving or you'll go down too.

Somebody tib-fibbed within 5 minutes of the rope drop and the next few laps patrol was packing them up. I don't think I've seen anything like this, just complete mayhem.

    Photos are from lap 3.

    Merry Christmas everybody.

It is honestly amazing how difficult powder skiing can be for the uninitiated.

Had the best A Basin day I've ever had today. Was initially heading to Vail, but redirected to A Basin and so glad to have made the change in plans.

Pali rope drop was all time. Can't get over how good it was.

Would it be worth it to go up tomorrow morning? Loveland pass is still closed, but if it is open tomorrow am I may make the trip up.

Today at MJ. Stake said about 10” and snow kept coming. Nobody was at the place until about 11. Looked like they were preparing to open some stuff either this afternoon or tomorrow.

Cameron is getting pummeled by this one!!! Over a foot in the parking lot when we showed up and still dumping when we left at dark. Coverage is surprisingly good up there, a few more storms and the lower trees will completely in. Man it felt good to ski some powder, Merry Christmas!!!

Hoping that Loveland pass will be open by then. What should my strategy be to get to Arapahoe Basin coming from the east, should I wait for Loveland pass to open or drive the tunnel through to Dillon then Abasin?

I'm going to make you a proposition, please take it.

If Loveland Pass is closed when you roll up to it tomorrow morning, I will give you $10.

If it is not, then you donate $10 to the Friends of CAIC?

It's really not a big deal to drive up from Dillon. Maybe an extra 15-20 minutes compared to driving over the pass.

Definitely don't wait at Loveland Pass to open. CDOT might be doing avi mitigation work up there for hours on end before they get it open.

Looks like high pressure this week. The resorts are going to get blasted by tourons. Moguls will form down to the grass (again).

    This.
The winds are still howling. I’m sure they’ll be doing mitigation work in the morning. Just get an early start and take a nap in the parking lot if you have extra time.

18” on my deck in WP. Jane side seemed to have less snow - or more traffic - than WP side. What an afternoon.

That's all it takes to get you guys excited? 3 storms totaling like 14 inches of snow and 0.8 inches of water over 5 days "gets the stoke up?!" Wake me up when we have another 4 or 5 inches of SWE on the ground. I think that will likely be January 2019 at this point.
