I skied at Breck today and it was pretty decent but an absolute zoo.

I managed to enjoy some “directive skiing” when I caught a rope drop under the mercury superchair lift line. Not very steep but goddamn was it nice to ski some powder.

No one else was skiing it for some reason. I don’t think people realized it was even open. Sad to say that the 4 runs I took today under mercury superchair were my best runs of the season.

Until the upper mountain is open, there's no reason to go there.

Why does it seem like vail resorts is barely blowing any snow ? They were blowing basically nothing at Breck yesterday and driving by Keystone today it looked like they weren’t blowing any snow. Wtf? Shouldn’t they be working overtime right now to get more snow blown ?

That would be a waste of their resources not affecting their customer base. Silly.

If the temps are there, they will blow as much as possible. Only way they are going to have anything to attract guests.

It's been a bit too warm during the day to blow snow. They are going to hammer things hard this week when it cools down. Vail is trying hard to open stuff. I'm sure they aren't happy at all with they way they are having to open trails up (with all kinds of weird criss-crossing and connecting).

Good news is that the front rangers will all go to Breck/Keystone over the holidays and Vail/BC will be pretty empty. Lots of shitty tourist skiers, but they will only ski for a couple of hours a day.

Keystone was blowing until about 1130.

It's been too warm in Vail, per a snowblower.

For you weather nerds: any signs in the forecast of a change coming? Don't tell me 2 weeks

Sorry brah, seriously-- it's gonna be 2 weeks. There's gonna be a weak storm this Thursday, 12/21 (1-2"). Then some super fucking cold weather over next weekend thru Christmas. We'll be lucky to get 4" out of the next 14 days in most places.

I like Bean's use of "Fortnight" a few weeks ago. Yes. Let's call it a "Bama Fortnight".

Get over it douchebags. You ain't the shit till you can ski the shit.

I have skied shit, but I have become kind of a snow snob. I wish it weren't true, but I can't help it. I still might do a few laps on Tuesday for gp.

Yup. And it gets worse every year. And really good snow days on the hill does NOT help it.

I was optimistic that MJ would be decent, but it was lame. Icy and thin.
    Sober Englishmen....also lame!

^^^ Open and no rocks in the middle like the old tree trail. Though they cut Drunken and Gandy clear in half.

The skiing at Wanker Park....could be worse. Word from people in the lodging game is that cancellations are coming in heavy. Biggest X-mas bust since 2011-12 when the ski area got <200" for the year.

Re: Sober Englishman - Why? I mean I kinda get it but how much time does in save vs. taking Whistledick to the Hi Lo. I guess the guest don't know how to hold their speed and we can't have the paying public using their poles or unstrapping.

I think the idea is that it's not readily apparent to guests that they can get to the Jane that way, and a little confusing. People just rode a lift, it's easier to say "ride this trail to the Jane" versus take this cat track all the way around to another lift and ride that lift to the Jane?
"fuck off you asshat gaper shit for brains fucktard wanker." - Jesus Christ
"She was tossing her bean salad with the vigor of a Drunken Pop princess so I walked out of the corner and said.... "need a hand?"" - Odin
"everybody's got their hooks into you, fuck em....forge on motherfuckers, drag all those bitches across the goal line with you." - (not so) ill-advised strategy
